why o why. have u spent every other dollar you have on a 800 hp engine with crazy turbos. rims. brakes, suspension and stereo... are lambo doors really even on the list of what the zed needs?

if u want proper lampbo doors with gas struts and engineering aprovals get ready 2 shell out 2k plus...

if u want them buy them but if they are not approved you will literally get a yellow sticker every time u open your door in view of a police officer

But it would be funny if you hit him in the head with the door  ala that simpons episode then Troy McLure was done for driving without his glasses.

I was pretty sure that the Lambo kits where $2k + installation and engineering certificate

    Forgive me All, but...

Despite all of the negative opinions posted (each to their own), I confess (cue booing and hissing here!? <LOL> :D ) that I really want to do this mod  , but I have had a real b!tch of a time actually finding anything that appears to be one of the afore mentioned reliable/good quality kits.

I also keep seeing that it would cost $2-3K to do this and little to no actual info on where to find the worthwhile kits.

Please... If someone can post a site or two for where to get the good 90 degree conversion kits (one's that WILL fit a our Zed's), I'd really appreciate it. All I've found are what I expect would fall into the "DODGY" category (AUD$500-$1500)...

Oh, and can someone who knows ADAEMON please ask him (nicely  ) to post up his opinions and experiences with his install?

    Thanks all,

    Baz..... :zlove:

    Lambo Doors

It seems this topic is once again on the agenda, a good search on this and you should find the answers. The link that Hot300zx has posted is a 45 degree, bolt on type I have seen these or similar and they only go up to 45% you will need to basically squeeze backwards before getting out and they personally do not look anywhere as better than having a universal kit that can be angled anywhere up to 90 degree, I have mine angled at 75% like the lamborghine, there are a tonne of these kits on the market, mine are from the USA, no ebay or china crap and yes at the time I had purchased them for 2k the Australian dollar was shit house back than so they are cheaper now with the exchange rate, I had a professional installer, which he had experience on installing these kits and was a awarded body kit designer and autosalon winner. I must admit the guy that installed them told me the the Z was the most difficult to do, but with anything new(prototype) is a challenge in itself. The end product was very good, the Z is probably one of very few cars that suit Lambo doors when done properly and getting in and out is easy. Some people use 1 x gas strut that will not lift the door as the doors are heavy, 2 gas struts and you will need to still push the door with your hand so it eventullay sits up in the air, with 3 gas struts which I have the door goes up on its own and even on a up hill the gas struts still pulls the door up. It is a little tough to pull it done but that comes with the weight, size of the door, and with the pressure of the 3 x gas struts, you get use to it.

Overall each to there own you pay what you get, but saying that you have to do your research, it really pays to do your homework.

Mine were engineered and RTA approved because it was a quality installation

It is also a registered wedding car and also approved by Shannons insurance

    Yep We Have 'Em Too

As WLDTTZ mentioned, my Sal has them on her Zed.
I will echo the thoughts of those that know above.
DO NOT use a universal kit.
DO NOT buy off eBay and then find someone that says "oh yeh I can fit them".
DO NOT try to have this mod done on the cheap.

I gotta say I disagree with with some comments on this thread. The Zed was never meant for scissor doors blah blah blah. In that case buy a Zed and keep it completely stock and pristine......... maybe some day it will be worth a million $$$ like a Phase 3 is these days. Bah..... people modify cars in order to have something a bit different. Some are happy to put a momo gear knob on and call their car modified.... others go a little further. Scissor doors do not change the style or characteristics of the car, they simply add an element of "WOW". Believe me........ when you pull up at the servo and put the door up......... you certainly don't feel that you have wasted your money. So, maybe I'm a show-pony...... who cares, I like the look of them and the attention they draw and that's what counts to me. It's no different to any other aesthetic modification you do to your car.

Again I will re-iterate............ don't try to get away with using a universal kit. Also ensure as Ademon has said that you use enough strut power. The Zed doors are heavier than most other doors you will see with the scissor kit conversion.

Sally has had a heap of trouble with her doors because a universal kit was used, coupled with an installer that was not professional. Hence the doors didn't seal properly and during winter that causes us a heap of trouble. I wouldn't let this put you off if you want to do this mod though, I would simply ensure you follow the advice. Spend the $$$ to have it done right.

    Where to buy?

Where did you guys buy the kit from? The US?

I've seen a lot of places in the US sell them years ago. Then they popped up on eBay but always seemed a bit dodgey. There was one store in the US which came up with them first. I can't remember the name...but since then they have been copied over and over and it will be hard to find the real deal now.

From what I gathered, they never ever open straight up right? The door has to open normally about 30cm - 60cm, they they go vertical...is this correct? Because the locking part of teh door doesn't get altered right?

I think this type of job will be hard to get right...I've messed around with the Zed doors a lot...whoever designed them, needs to be shot...they are possibly the worst designed door on a car...ever...and bloody heavy.

    Cheers
    Rob.

Good informative reply! The fit was my only concern. I looked at a very smart Honda s2000 with the doors done, looked terriffic until the guy went to drive away, clunked the door almost closed, lifted slammed and jiggled the door eventually closed. lost a lot of cool value going through that process

    Kit supplied by installer

Sally got her door kit from the installers. They are a place here in Adelaide with a questionable reputation. I shall not name them as we have previously had legal advice regarding dealings with them.

Anyway they advertised the scissor door modification and Sally was drawn to it like a moth to a light. They were supposedly using a kit designed for the Zed, but we have since found out it was a universal kit. The struts they used were not powerful enough and the doors were very heavy to lift. It was all a big balls up really. We had the struts sorted out somewhere else so that now the doors can be lifted and stay up, but they still don't seal properly around the tops of the window glass.

Yep, it's true that the door opens straight out first and then up. It's a good 60cm because you can easily get in and out without having to raise the door up at all. The locking part of the door remains unchanged.

    A familiar story

Yep Baron, that's eactly the same for us. The door no longer aligns with the latch, so it is a matter of knowing how much extra down pressure you need to apply to the door when closing it in order to get the alignment right. It's all well and good until you have someone in the car that doesn't understand and then they get out and just close the door, but it just bashes and chips yet a bit more paint out of the wrong spot. All the cool value just disappears.

True about people trying to close them, they end up slamming the door as they are not use to how to somewhat close it, they think it closes differently, so I myself only open and close the door for the passenger.
