Funny you should ask... Well first off I managed to break my new ECU I decided to go against Eric's advice and I tried to socket the ECU myself. It didn't work well at all It would start but conzult wouldn't connect and it was running pig rich. But I did manage to fix my previously broken ECU by changing two of the injector drivers and putting the nistune board back into that one Works just like a bought one again I've knocked up a quick and dirty air guide that goes around the mouth of the GReddy bar and goes to the rad crossmember. Just put the swaybar back on. Will be putting the last two front bar bolts in today (they have to be moved on the car) and mod the nose panel hardware to fit the new bar. I haven't got a RWC yet as I want a 'easy' one There are a couple of BS little issues that I know the local guy would screw me over for, for no good reason other than he can.
I have a knack for asking the right question at the near right time - i think its called 'winging it' A carton of jacks fixes all BS issues the 'man' will stick you with. And electronics musnt be you're forte, you seem to have more issues with ecus than most. Good to know you have a working unit though. Will you be sending the other ecus away to get fixed so that you can at least have a working spare? Post up a pic of the failed attempt, see where you went wrong. And while you're at it, new piccies of the front bits. The end is nearing i suppose... ... but only the beginning of the Fun [TIS]
Well some interesting developments with the ECU.... Worked fine with the Impul tune yesterday, then I put the Nistune board in and it started and connected to Consult fine so I left it. Went to move the car today and after it running for a few minutes it shat itself again limp mode, consult disconnected Sad face. Opened up the ECU and everything looked ok, so I pulled the nistune board and put the old Impul chip in and now it's sweet again! I think I may have the wrong base tune on the Nistune board. The ECU I have is a very early model and the tune I have been using is a slightly later one. I will try that later... Went for another quick fang around the block once it got up to temp. Temps didn't get over 80deg which I'm happy about, most of the time they were 75 and below Will have to see what it does in traffic though. It sounds damn sexy when you get up it too, pulls very well from 2000rpm and that's with a knock sensor fault (yes I will fix it soon!) Oh and coming back from my little run I braked hard on a downhill section with the clutch in and the oil pressure plummeted I killed the motor, then restarted it, no weird sounds thankfully! I need to get the accusump reconnected before I play too much! Here is a quick piccy of the undertray. I've since added another bit on the drivers side of the radiator to plug up a 100mm gap. Why didn't you get the USA style rear plate, they fit perfectly inside the bumber without bending. Can't you get defected for bending it like that? Also get those new wheels on, can't wait to see them.
I bought the plates off Erik and he ordered the slimilines front and back. I will probably get some US style plates when I get around it. As for the bent plates I have installed them as best allows by the design of the vehicle New wheels won't be going on for a while, need to get tyres and spacers for them first.
Got another ECU from the states, turns out it's a '94 when it was supposed to be a '93... Also for a traction control engine so is throwing funny error codes. So short story is, it won't work with my Nistune board, and the type 3 Nistune boards aren't playing with the late model VH ecu's. I'll live with it for the time being. Drives fine though, went for a short drive around the block (semi rural, no schools and nursing homes full of people for me to run over ) Started off in 3rd the other day and didn't notice until I went to change into 2nd Still no rego, haven't had the time to tidy everything up for the RWC guy, and don't really have a spare $1k for rego and however much for insurance at the moment. It can wait till after uni is done and I'm back from skiing
We need to organise a bank robbery or a good drug deal and split the ill gotten gains, then we can both finish our datsuns. Wonder where you can buy more money and time for a good price
