with smaller subs this is true, as the box makes all the bass, but with the subs in my car, the sub it self will throw a huge amount of bass waves strait ahead, as they get 30mm xmax, and handle 2250watt rms each ! thats 4500 watt rms! and i am running 1 amp per sub (earthquake phd5000 - 3000 watt rms each amp)

for speakers i run in the front

my earthquake fc 6.2 splits, 600 watt's & an extra set of fusion 150watt tweeters (these are not installed yet as ive only just brought the car and havnt had time, but the 6"s will go in door as normal with the cross over mounted in the door, and will cut out a hole in the top part of the door trim near the air vent, and the fusion tweeters will be going where the original seat belts were that left a nice little hole already,
and in the rear earthquake 6x9's 800 watt's

and these speakers are all run off the ph2200.4 which u can see in my pics

haha yeh im a bad audiophile, have been for a long time!

if any one else wants the box design for the 2 seater for 2x 15's let me know :) took me a while to figure out how to get 3 cubic feet per sub and also still be able to see out back window!:)

    Looking good dude!

Good to see my baby's being looked after!

Hope the false shelf is coming in handy! I left almost all the wiring in there for ya!

Don't forget tho... Being an audiophile doesnt involve having just fat bass! Its about having it actually sound good too!! 10" subs give you a much better bass quality than 15s!!

10" gives you better bass? Qualify that. You talking low-end bass (in which bigger is better) or transient response (where little ones are better)?

I'll probably be going one good 12" like a JL 12W7, since I do want SQ, not SPL and two 15" behind my head I don't think would suit me, but who knows, maybe he has 6 splits in the front :p

Many people think that if they have 2 x 15s that the bass will be better. Yes it will be louder and carry further, but it is also easily distorted and can lower the quality of sound in your car.

I would recommend a 10 or a 12 if you want sound quality in your vehicle. Of course the type of enclosure, type of amp and how it is wired matters, but it depends all on the sound you're looking for.

When it comes to size, the bigger the sub, the lower the frequency it will produce and hence, the deeper the bass, but the bigger the sub, the slower your bass response is too.

15s are suited to hip hop, and some dance music as they produce the really low frequency tones better and give you that big boom feeling. If you listen to music that has bass guitar in it, or accurate kick drum patterns, then you will find 15s are sloppy and blend the tones together. 10s or even a 12 will give you a better bass response for rock through to ? well (imo) pretty much everything that isn?t hip hop! Personally, I play the drums, so I like nice tight bass in my music so I can pickup the kick patterns and bass lines...

If you like for your bass to be heard more outside of your vehicle than inside then I would recommend 15's and up. If you're looking for your bass to be more inside your vehicle, I would recommend 10's, or 12's (depending on the box and the amp pushing it).

Just my opinion of course! Each to their own always!:zlove:

depends on the sub really, if your talking about low end 15" subs they can lack quite a bit, as you have this huge cone with a small voice coil and motor with the same amount of power as you get in your usual 10" to power the cone, so you have a big cone that cant be very responsive, but if you have the big sub with the big driver, and the big amp behind it with good damping factor, you will find that the 15"s will be a great all round sub!

it also depends what you want from the box too, the box is one of the most important things!, as you can tell with such a big box with 4 big ports im going for the 35-40hz area which is quite low, kind of general all around with a bit more boom.

and i do have splits in the front 600 watt earthquake fc6.2's
    and also fusion tweeters, earthquake eq-693r's which are 800 watt 3 way 6x9's being ran off a ph2200.4 which gives 175watt rms x 4 @ 4 ohms with <0.14thd

powered by 2 runs of 0/1awg knu concepts wiring, and 1x run of 4awg knu concepts wiring, 2X 25 farad power accoustik capacitors and 1x 6 farad power accoustik cap

i scrapped the 4 awg which was already in there :p

and my new kenwood foldout touschscreen dvd just arrived today so i gotta install that soon too :)
