My imported TT was built in August 1989, here's the JDM VIN plate -
Some VIN lookup sources said it was not among the first ones built, as in the 501058 numbers were internal codes that didn't accurately describe the chassis numbering.
Tbh I was bummed, because production had supposedly started in July 1989, so how could my August built Zed not be among the first few hundred built?
The table AndrewG posted of 1988 built Z32s is interesting Watson...
FAST says your car is the 1058th 2+2 TT chassis for the JDM market, built July 1989. There is no sequential numbering amongst all Z32 chassis.
Brain Long's table is from his 2004 book. While the book is generally good i would not regard it as authoritative particularly given he is not a Nissan or Z specialist and we have way more info/tools at our disposal compared to 2003. Without all the 2+2 data I can't confirm his numbers, but 88 production wouldn't surprise me. Most seem to have been exported and the USA was the primary market for the car.
Z32's weren't available until 1990 in the US
CZ32 & GCZ32's vin digits started with a 5, so you would go with the digits after that, ie. 01058th GCZ32
Only GCZ32 #1 & 2 were missing the 5 at the start for whatever reason.
Edit: Your vin comes back as July 1989 build, with factory Bose audio.

In the US, the NA 2+0 went on sale from May 1st 1989. The NA 2+2 went in sale in June 1989, followed by the Turbo (2+0 only in the US) in September 1989.

All 2+0 NA's were designated the chassis code of 'Z32'.
That would be a 2+0 NA.
Ian, I took that as gospel too. But this thread is starting to prove that the Z32 was available in the US in 1989
Keep in mind, with every manufacturer / model of car - if it was built in 19XX they advertise it as the 19X + 1 model.
The owners endorse that too. I seem to be the only member on this forum who has a 1989 JDM TT, everyone else has a 1990 or later JDM TT
My conspiracy theory - a previous owner took the ID plate off before a re-spray and broke or lost the plastic clips and he had a lot of black paint left over. He was determined to use every last drop of that paint, even dipped the rivets in it
I've got Brian Longs' 1999 book here, titled Datsun 280 Nissan 300 ZX
That table of production numbers in the above post isn't in this book. But he does mention the Z32 being launched in the USA in 1989
I'd rather not scan & post any pages from that 1999 book though, copyright etc.
But hey, how many times have we seen 19XX built cars, of all makes, described as 19X +1 year.
