Thought I'd start a re-build thread I can update regularly. I always get lost and I've been away for so long it would be nice for people to see it all in one thread from the beginning; which is where I will start. 01-05-2007 I picked up my zed from a member James Strom (Strom) and this happened to be the first picture I ever took of it/her. It didn't run right when I first got it, needed a tuning bad, new coil packs (running on 5), Still being in school I didn't have money to pay for what I wanted. Photo shows how rich she was I did what I could and drove it around for a while, had fun. Just before I turned 18 (February 2008) the head gasket decided to leak. Even the upper plenum filled up with coolant Sometime around February 2009 with help from a few members and friends the engine came out - While plans of a RB26 going in or building a monster VG30 got tossed around in my head she sat in the garage gathering dust... Little tribute to a bit of dodgy work and steve smacking himself in the face (lol) I forgot about along the way... In February this year I painted the engine bay hoping that this would motivate me to finish the build. It seems In February each year there seems to be a little wind making the zed all piece together. So hopefully by February 2011. The motor will be in the bay and tuned. cometic gasket!!! dude !!! 95% fail rate on those gaskets dude... id be expecting some engine out time pretty soon
lol, i suppose you've rebuilt heads of vg's with cometic gaskets hey simmo? We use and recommend cometic gaskets for all of our engine rebuilds, never had one leak. Only time we've ever had one fail if with an SR22 160tho oversized pistons with big big boost. Only reason that was is because the pistons were that huge there was bugger all gap between cylinders.
Great pics! Sounds like this engine will really sing when you get it back in. Lol'd on the innovative use of your Yellow Pages too.
This is where the car is at today... I've changes plans a few times and will write about everything in detail later tonight but i'll share some porn with ya's... Enjoy
One of my fav builds, did you swap the shell to a slicktop? Every thing looks awesome. My personal taste i prefer black over your new colour.
