I had a set of HKS2540 on a zed lots of kick in the arse but lots of lag. I have found little info on them with zeds and there seems a lot of interest inregards to the 2530s. Does anyone have an opinion on these? would a better than stock exhaust manifolds help spool up or are they really a bit oversized?

for the price of the 2530's you might as well go the gt28rs's and a pair of MS manifolds. that gives you great top end and excellent spool up.

you would of course need all the necessary upgrades to go along with the turbos if you want to feel their full potential.

never heard of the 2540's sp can't really comment on those

2540 is the next size up, i've seen 2L engines use one to make good power, SR20, RB20 and EVOs etc with a single 2540.

i'm guessing being suited to a 2L engine having 2 on a zed would be overkill and too laggy.

    Benny_C About as subtle as...

    Let me get this clear...

YES AN UPGRADED EXHAUST WILL HELP

But for starters, I thought that even the HKS2540 needed a 5 bolt dump - which would lead you to assume you had a full upgraded exhaust even with those.....

HKS2530 are a really highly rated turbo for a Zed. you WILL need to upgrade the exhaust to a 5 bold dump, so you will have to do the rest to a high flow exhaust to suit the turbo. (that's a given)

Unfortunately the new HKS2530 turbos are quite expensive new, but they do offer a qualification that not many other turbos of such caliber offer .... minimal lag! So they are a great setup if you can afford it, and can do the appropriate supported mods.

There are much cheaper options out there like the Garrett GT28R. Similar top end HP, but with slightly higher lag, etc. It all comes down to what you want.

Do a search for "Turbo Upgrade" or something like that. you will find all your answers there....

considering hks dont make a 2540 for the z your gonna be up for big dollars makign a kit.

why not buy the new SZ kit?

or you could go a 2835 kit with pentroof manis

then again your could get td05/6's

it all depends on your budget and what you want out of the car..
if you want lag go big . and have no low end power.

The SZ-EXP90 Turbo Kit! (Extreme Power 900HP Capable)

Have still got the HKS 2540

I had one turbo changed(to suite r bank) to fit the zed. they are 10yr old now was originally on a GTR. Yes they do have a 5 hole dump and running twin 3 inch exhaust but the standard exhaust manifold. not much boost before 4000rpm. Was really wondering if there is something like the changed manifold would help or anything else to reduce lag or is it something to live with or change the turbos.

The Hks 2540 aren't a good turbo choice. Mismatched turbine / compressor. making them laggy for what they can output.

Simmo bro, what RPM do the TD05's come on?? Is there much fiddling to do when you install them? Im considering these

their not td05. they are gt3071's and one guy that has them in the usa just ran a 10.7 in the 1/4 mile last week.

apparently they don't have that much lag and not many people have them fitted because they just came out. maybe have a look and maybe email the guys at specialtyz.

all reasonable turbos take a reasonable amount of work to fit
