Hey guys, I need some help with this one please.
I was out driving yesterday in the magic weather and the HICAS light comes on. The steering wheel goes heavy (but still have power steering, just HEAVY) compared to normal.

When the car is switched on all is normal. Power steering nice and light as normal. After a few minutes of driving, the steering goes heavy and a little while after, the HICAS light comes on solid on the dash.

Today, I did some diagnosis and this is what I came up with:
Checked the power steering fluid, perfect!
Checked the HICAS control valve connector at the front of the car for corrosion, perfect!
Ran Conzult, entered the HICAS diagnostics and turned steering wheel Left to Right, It shows the degrees and no problem with centering position.
Took the car for a short drive while running Conzult and Solenoid R shows no voltage.
Consult says, HICAS light is ON.
and it comes up HICAS solenoid R = No Voltage (0.00v)
The power steering pump is showing voltage.

Does anyone know where this Solenoid R is located? It looks like it has either failed or not getting power and the HICAS computer is shutting down the HICAS system as a result. But in the process the steering wheel is much heavier than std.

I am not after suggestions to remove the HICAS but any constructive ideas to address this issue will be much appreciated. :)

    Adz_79 I do it in a Zed

image-2125063241.jpg See the metal cans on each end, they are the solenoids. Not sure which is left and right, but obviously one has burnt out and needs replacing, or a wire is loose

    Thank you!

Visual inspection of the wiring was also done to ensure no exposed wires and everything is nice and clean.

Knowing where the solenoids are located is a great start.
I'll check the mechanical workshop as well and take it from there.

Great thread here for HICAS for anyone interested.

All sorted. Solenoid valve is NG with no resistance across the plug terminals. It should be 4-6ohm.

I would say this is a good place to start if anyone has a HICAS issue. Check the solenoid valve for failure using the multimeter. It only takes a few minutes. They are over 25yrs old and they do fail eventually it seems.
