i have searched, but haven't found exactly what i'm looking for....it looks like every man and his dog has some kind of coolant or overheating problem!!

ok, so last Thursday i was driving home and as i turned a 90 degree left hand corner, about a cup full of warm water spilled onto my left foot!! now, as i understand it, if your heater core blows, it dumps coolant on the passenger side (?) but it could come out on the drivers side i suppose if i was turning a corner, but wouldn't have given me like 3rd degree burns!!?? also, it really wasn't that much water and it didn't look very green... and the temp guage hadn't moved at all.

given all my recent overheating problems, i have gotten into the habit of checking the water every time before i drive my car and it has always been fine.

anyway, on saturday (the really hot one we just had) the water was a little low, but i only had to put about 500mls in it and it was full again, but i ended up deciding not to drive it anyway.... this morning, i had to put about a litre in and after driving for about an hour this morning, it splashed a little bit of water again on my left foot, again turning a left hand corner but it looked more green this time, but still it wasn't hot...

what is going on?? any ideas?

    Bypass your heater core...

I only had a quick skim read, I'm to tied to read it all LOL!
But if you got coolant on your foot, it's heatercore leak.

might not be much of a help but its an idea...

I was just thinking about this and im really not 100% sure but could it be leaking inside the cabin (from the heater) and then sitting ontop of something or inside a pipe etc.. and then its running off when you turn left?

Sorry its not much of a technical fix but could could explain why the water was not hot

    You don't need to...

Coolant runs threw the heatercore constantly.

Almost 100% that its your heatercore. The only other source of liquid that runs in the cabin is from the air conditioner, which can leak water if the overflow pipe is blocked. however, as you weren't running the air con at the time, i'd doubt this. The air con plumbing is also on the passenger side of the car, so unlikely to spill on the driver's side. When my heatercore started leaking, i had a bit coming out of the passenger side foot vents, as well as some dribbling out of the heatercore tap area near the footrest. I'd bypass your heater for now until you can get your heatercore issues addressed.

Bypass hose for heater core is a

~$12 piece of hose you can buy from Repco.

Buy an EA Falcon heater hose part number ED18472G. You just place the tail end onto the Passenger side pipe with the bend facing downward & bring the other end up & onto the Drivers side pipe. Ten minte job when the engine is completely cold. Too painful when it's hot!!!

You have another 7-8 months before you have to worry about fixing the heater core (if you ever do). I bypassed mine even though the heater core never leaked...

haylz .. when my core went .. it leaked on both ..

passenger and driver's side footwells ..

apart from the above advice, get under your carpets very quickly and clean up any dampness .... beat the mouldy smell of rotting carpet ... yukko ....!!!

Same here, leaked on both sides. If the foam has disintegrated around the core the coolant will definitely leak on the drivers side.

My metal mend job is still holding after a winter work out, so if you want a quick easy fix dont bother pulling the core out unless the leak is where you cant reach it with the putty. Im rebuilding a gearbox at the moment and its been way easier to work on than that damn heater core contortion act I had to do to get it out!
