I thought these were kind of a euphemism, the stuff of movies etc. Until yesterday afternoon's apocalyptic downpour of icy golf ball sized missiles in Melbourne. They came from out of nowhere and left 16 dimples all over my bonnet (left it out to clean it, and the other car was in the garage). Yay me.
Had just been to Tektrader's to get my front upper control arm fixed. One thing fixed, another thing damaged.

    Anyone else take a licking?

as soon as it hit i put my car inside the garage so no damage, copped 3 to the head and 1 to the thumb, funnily enough the thumb one hurt the most

Not exaggerating and no one-upmanship intended, but thirty years ago in Brighton (north bayside suburb of Brisbane) there was a hailstorm with MANY cricket ball sized stones. Average was around 50mm across, as when I drove through two minutes after it passed (luckily I pulled over due to not being able to see 6 metres ahead) my first thought was "I don't remember that many frangipani bushes around here" ...... the hailstones looked like thousands of flowers littering the footpath. When I realised it was hail, I pulled over and my nephew grabbed a bigger than cricket ball sized stone to show friends. Many houses were totally destroyed, even cement tiled and corrugated iron roofs weren't immune. Storm lasted all of 5 to 7 minutes.

Edit.....Just Googled it and records from Insurance council of Aust say....

A total of 1600 homes were damaged with 100 left structurally unsafe and Insurance payouts totalled $36 million......big bucks in 1980

My bonnet, roof and hatch are pretty much stuffed. Dints galore :mad:
My car was parked outside on the street in st kilda. Gf was at work and she had the remote to the secure car park so i couldnt get my car out of the storm :(
Damage was terrible, i went outside after the storm and the next street up was flooded completely. People were scooping water out from inside thier cars. Kingsway and Sturt st intesection was in chaos lol
