Howdy folks, well where to begin? I've been in the Z game a while now & as most of you know I own a white 1990, 2+2, twin turbo that I've spent endless hours and money on. You wouldn't be a fool for thinking this thread will be more evolution of the 2+2, but you would be wrong. Well recently I couldn't pass up the opportunity to purchase a 2000 model, slicktop, twin turbo, 5 speed, version S, Z32 from Western Australia. I paid to have it transported to me via truck, train & boat. Here are some pics I took without touching a thing after parking her in the garage for the first time. She was a little rougher than I was anticipating, but nothing some time & money can't fix. Most of the issues are cosmetic, which is a nice change
I sat in that car! It looked sweet. I couldnt believe how solid and new everything felt. A great platform to start with! Good buy Sim!
Thanks gents! Kurt, don't jump the gun I haven't mentioned the forged engine yet!!! GEEZ! First thing to organise was a roadworthy so I could get the rego changed over. Lucky for me I have someone in the extended family who was able to do that for me, which saved me a lot of headaches! So the custom plates were removed from poor old 2+2 and installed on to the young slicktop Then the cleaning freezy & swapping over of parts started. I removed the black pin stripe from around the car, it took some persuading and a lot of elbow grease. The aftermarket third brake light was removed & clear tint film from the hatch window. Again, lots of elbow grease and scrubbing. Clear film removed, but thick sticky residue left on glass. Rear window all cleaned up. Another thing that had to go was the steering wheel. In it's place now is a nice MOMO wheel I found which I think suits the interior brilliantly.
Though there are many parts on my 2+2 I love, I didn't want it to just be a donor car for the slicktop. I want the slicktop to have its own style. So to date the only things I have swapped over are Tein Flex coilovers from the 2+2 to the slicktop in exchange for Tein HA coilovers. Also swapped over the 56mm alloy radiator from the 2+2 to the slicktop. Next thing to get a clean was the strut towers. Before: After: Also for reference, here is a pic of the VIN plate:
I removed the seats to give the interior a full clean. Also took the opportunity to re-tension up the base fabric on the drivers seat. Here is my 7 month old daughter helping out: Here is a pic showing the different cluster: I got to cleaning the underside too. The muffler polished up well If you know me well, you'll know I like my Z's low. So when the Tein Flex were swapped over I dialed in a nice ride height that still allows me to exit the driveway without fear of removing the exhaust haha. I also cleaned the diff, as it was covered in oil/grease from an old leak. The HICAS dash light was coming on sometimes, so cleaned all the connectors to the electric HICAS too. Warning light hasn't come on since. Slicktop getting an arse scrub as 2+2 watches on: Also found the corner indicators were different from side to side. So bought a matching pair and cleared them out. Also noticed that 2nd and 4th gear were whining loudly. Removed the centre console expecting to find the gear shifter boot(s) not on correctly. I was right & simple fix. The electric mirrors weren't working at all either. Talk about easy fix, the connector wasn't plugged in! Another reference pic:
It is a Bomex wing, bottom part of a two piece wing. It reminds me of a shark fin, hence the Great White reference
Great to see you got another sweet ride SIM. I was quietly gutted when you posted in another thread you will have the 2+2 up for sale soon. I think you are an owner of about the same era as me and i have always loved what you did with the 2+2 and yours inspired me to run similar themed wheels on my car. Are you going to stick with the stillen front end on the new car? Its the same as mine. I know there are quite a few people who dont like it for some reason. Funnily enough I had a Ab Flug bar on my car before putting the stillen one on.
Thanks stanny. It will be sad to see the 2+2 go (if or when), but I needed something new. The 2+2 got to & passed the staged I had always envisaged. I'm not a huge fan of the Stillen, but content enough not to change it. The windscreen cowls have been replaced & brake master cylinder brace installed. I also have brand new window molds to install. Currently the car is nose up on chassis stands. I need to replace the bleed tape/screw o-ring on the radiator to a fibre washer to prevent further possible leakages. The slicktop has larger SMIC's and ducts fitted: The drivers side duct was all bent up and held together with gaffer tape. I want to remove the headlights to give them a clean, so the ducts had to come off & found themselves in my rubbish bin. I also took the opportunity the remove the mesh from the front bar. So this is currently where I'm at: A little teaser before I head off to bed for much need beauty sleep
Warning: Some members might find the following pictures arousing. So I have this large paperweight sitting in my garage: I had EP Racing do the build & then had it crated to me via ship. Here are some pics during the build process. Engine specs listed at the bottom: LONG BLOCK SPECS: (May have missed a few things, but you'll get the gist) VAT BLOCK (ACID DIP) MAGNAFLUX CRANKSHAFT HONE ALL CYLINDERS W/ TQ MICRO POLISH CRANKSHAFT MODIFY CRANKSHAFT TO HIGH SPEED OIL SYSTEM PORT OIL PUMP DEBURR ENGINE BLOCK WISECO FORGED PISTON KIT SCAT CONNECTING RODS ARP ROD BOLTS CLEVITE ROD BEARING KIT CLEVITE MAIN BEARING KIT EPR CRANK SCRAPER / WINDAGE KIT STREET EP RACING THERMAL BARRIER PISTON COATING EP RACING HIGH PERFORMANCE BEARING COATING EPR CYLINDER BORE COATING PORT INTAKE PORTS EP RACING HIGH PERFORMANCE CAMSHAFT COATING HONE VALVE GUIDES GRIND SEAT ANGLE ON VALVE W/ BACK CUT JWT R4+ CAMSHAFT KIT EP RACING RACE TITANIUM VALVE SPRING RETAINER KIT MANLEY SS EXHAUST 1MM OVERSIZED MANLEY SS INTAKE 1MM OVERSIZED
most impressive progressing there Jono. Looks to be not just meeting, but surpassing the expectation that "2k spec" should represent. .... Slicktop almost makes up the single exhaust even -Michael
Come to think of it, I'm not even sure I had that done. I was copying the details from one of my invoices, but do believe we changed some things at a later date. There were some changes to the build route in the beginning (it was a L-O-N-G time ago), so I'll point Mitch (Tech@EPR) to the thread to correct the long block specs list.
