Thanks to Kingy - another great day with great company on the Great Ocean Road. Despite a bit of rain the weather held out for the most part.

I actually forgot my camera today, so anyone who took some pics post them up!

Now I thought there was one pic at least that HAD to appear on the forum - something to do with a tree???????

Anyway, another great forum cruise despite the mixed weather, and RZ2 still runs!! Bonus! Things to Kingy for the organisation, well done.

    Ahhh yes, forgot about this.

Saw Blipman and Bigcol returning to Melbourne on the Princes Fwy. I considered waving, but given I was driving a 135i I thought it may just confuse them :p

Its all good bro. It could have been a bad thing, but it wasn't. I need to learn to calm down.

    Peace :)

    RAIN RAIN GO AWAY.....
come again on someone elses cruise :bash:

Glad everyone enjoyed the cruise, it was certainly a totally differnt run in every aspect, not only did we do it in some rain but we did it backwards for the first time & we had ample social time ...... somehow it all worked together to make an excelent day for all.

My appologies for some hesitant driving near Mt Moriac, the road I had planned to use wouldnt have been ZX suitable after the heavy rains overnight so there was some frantic re-routing going on in my car at the time... the pre programed GPS was telling me to turn left, turn left, make a Uturn .... poor Andrew was struggling with the paper maps while I was mentally trying to recall what road went where and how to juggle it together to get back to where I wanted to be.....
Last straw was the VicRoads DETOUR
    :bash:
mental breakdown.... maps folded up ..... just drive :D

"perfom a Uturn when posiable" stupid GPS woman
    WE CAN'T

Lunch was as good as it usually is at the fly, plenty of it and done to perfection....... by the way, how are the Sauce Girls this morning ;) ( no know affiliation to the Spice Girls)
    :D

The coast was warm and welcoming after lunch, I even saw a top come off
but replaced just as quickly ;)
The actal coast run was done in nice sunny weather on dry roads offering up some much wanted grip for the tires atlast as we made our way through to the Anglesea turn for Geelong stop, a refuel for both the car and ourselves gave us a final chat with all before saying our farewells

Thanks to all that supported this run, without you its just a drive along a well known road... your company as always is excelent and much appreciated.
    :D:D

A special thanks to those that helped out..... Col & Bryan, it would be an imposiable task without your highly valued experiance and ability, &......
your booked to do the same job for the next GOR ;)
    :D

A very special thanks to my son Andrew.... without him navigating, handling the SMS's, and the phonecalls I'd have been stuffed... and we'd all have been lost somewhere in the otways .... good job mate ... good job.

Now for the next GOR .... I have an idea ....... ;)

I'f you'd hung around and gone with the second pack you would have seen the convertable with the top down. I did the full run from Appollo bay to Geelong with it down and it wasn't all that cold. I even got some video footage although have a passanger to hold the camera would have been easier but no one volunteered.

Personally I think the cruise worked better being in reverse with the coast road run on the way home.

Thanks to all who went to the effort to organise the day and come out and play in the rain.

Thanks Kingy for a great day. Really enjoyed this years route and hope it doesn't change much for next years run. Thanks to Col for leading the pack on the way from Lorne to Geelong, i had fun trying to keep up with you and Jedi;).

Here is the initial meet point where about half of the attendees gathered before heading off to Avalon to meet up with BADZX.

Thanks for driving me and Marie Frankie!!
Sorry about the scare bro, lucky it was nothing. Looked terrifying but turned out to be minor.
We had an AWESOM day, best part being following behind BADZX in the twisties, breaking away from the rest of the pack. FUN!
I got some great action vids taken through the twisties i will upload later.

I must say that the 2 hour stop at Otway Cafe drained lives, we got restless and bored, but we turned that frustration into a posetive and took it out on the sensational roads to follow.
For those that were prepared with good tyres had alot of fun, even in the rain.

Few people from here were missed. Wish you could have made it, even though we copped some HEAVY rain, it was all part of the experience. We had more beautiful weather as well so the different conditions added to the experience of the whole day.

Thanks to all the organisers for doing an EXCELENT job once again. You guys rock. For those that attended from other forums, this cruise was a typical representation of the quality and proffessionalism lacking in theirs. True testiment to 300zx owners.

Well done guys, look forward to the next one, in my car.

    Regards.

    Elie.

Another cracking GOR cruise, well done Kingy! I think you've got the layout bang on this time mate, inland run was great & allows for lunch/catch up at a good time. This is the second time I've experienced your inland twisties now, really looking forward to trying them in the dry some time:D

I had to leave early from our lunch stop to get back to geelong for a family function so I only grabbed a couple photos but here we go.

Sunday morning, all clean & ready to go. Torrential rain started about 5min later...

    Absolutley brilliant...!!

...thanks for an awesome day Guys (Col & Kingy) it takes a fair amount of personal time to do that and even though it rained a few times, the bits in between were amazing!
Nice that the Sun came out for the best part... the twisties on the way home.
1st time I've ever been glad to see a traffic light (the temp' one where the roadworks were) there was a Grey Zed in front then myself and Skyline behind and after it turned green no traffic for ages... great run! :zlove:

Can't wait till the next one! :zlove:

The day started really crap but it slowly turned out to be a nice cruise. I was pleasantly surprised as to how well the semi slicks held up in the wet.

Thanks to Col and Kingy for organising it and I'm sure next year's cruise will be even bigger and better.

  19. RENZED

RENZED Girl in the black beast

Well..what a day!!! Thanks heaps for Kingy for organising this one!

Had a great time, annoyed about the rain...but it did kinda behave itself in a way...
    1) BP Avalon meet point - no rain
    2) Heading towards twisties (inland) - pissed down
    3) Finally at the twisties - no rain, but wet
    4) Otway Fly - no rain (able to go for the walk, in good weather)
    5) Photoshoot - no rain
    6) Heading to Apollo Bay - pissed down
    7) Apollo Bay to Anglesea - Sun and no rain ...at this point I wished I took the targas off :(...so really, when it rained..well it rained at appropriate times lol...

I didn't get many photos..but with the ones I did get, I'll post them up later...I kinda lost the motivation to take photos, since the zeds weren't clean lol...

and..by the time I hit Lorne, all I wanted to do was go home (first zed event where I actually just wanted to go home!)...I blame the 8 hour drive back from Adelaide that made me feel like this, oh and the 5am wake-up ...I was just OVER driving....turns out I had officially driven 2,000km+ in 2 days and been in a car for over 3000km+ over 3 days..so yeah I think I know why I wanted to go home lol...

Even though, we had 2hrs of chatting time, I still ran outta time to meet some new people..well with the walk taking just over an hour, and then lunch being 30mins..didn't leave much time to say hello..but either way it was great :)..did get to say hello to vince and was nice meeting you :)..

Had a couple of scares through the cruise..when it was pelting down heading towards the inland twisties, I went through a HUGE puddle, didn't even see it, and was aquaplaning for about 2secs..had a couple of heart palpitations then...
Then the next fun part was the turn off to head towards the Otway fly, through all those twisties...hit a bunch of leaves and got a tad sideways..only a tad though..phew lol...

    Anyways..photos to come :)

  20. BADZX

    BADZX Grumpy old fart

There were 2 distinct reason for the 2 hours I'd allocated at the Fly.......

1/ it takes an hour to do the walk, leaving an hour for lunch and a chat for those that wanted to take the treetop walk.

2/ had it have been HOTTER.... lunch orders would have been ~40mis instead of the 20 we got, leaving only minutes to gulp down a full plate of food before hitting the twisties...... = vomit time

Being a cool day with showers the lunchtime rush wasnt there at all so less time could have been taken in hindsight... ;)
You cant move in the place on a hot summers day......

Personaly I enjoyed the 2 hour break before taking on the twisties.... 2 hours and 15mins however would have been stretchin it for me ;)

We can always change it next year ;)
critisim's always taken onboard.... good or otherwise  , remember I do this run for you guys n gals and try and allow for the vast "tastes" we all have.

    Kingy
