    Hi Everyone,
I’ve had my z stored at my old mans place for the past 7 years. Right before I dropped it off there I had it serviced with new fluids etc. I want to get it running again so apart from changing all the fluids again, filters and some new fuel, is there anything I should maybe do before I kick her over? Any tips would be great!
    Regards,
    Jesse

New battery, wouldnt bother changing gearbox or diff oils. After oil change, remove ignition coil or fuse and turn the engine over to get oil circulating prior to the engine firing. Flush the old fuel out of pump and delivery lines with fresh fuel. Clean or renew spark plugs. You may have problems with injectors but you will know that once it fires. Good luck

Thanks Martin! Would flushing the lines be disconnecting at the engine the letting the pump push the new fuel through? Ok good point about the spark plugs but didn’t know about disconnecting the coil. Cheers!

Yes disconnect fuel line at engine and flush through into container. I used the wrong terminology I said ignition coil I meant ignition relay. You could also spin the engine over more easily with spark plugs out and coil packs disconnected

Thanks a lot for the tips. I will post how she goes starting later this week. Cheers

Swapped out all the fluids and changed filters. Cranked her over. No go. found there is no spark. replacing the PTU and wiring for it and fingers crossed it starts.

    Ignition Relay operating okay?

Haven’t checked it. Does that stop the car from sparking or turning over?

Stops the spark but engine should still turn over

Just a thought, does your car have an immobilizer? Some immobilizers were wired just to prevent electrical supply to ignition relay.

Yea it does. Reds won’t come on if it’s active. Which sounds like it interrupts the ignition. The car doesn’t crank over unless I deactivated it

Have you got power to and from ignition relay. Does the ignition relay pull in when ignition switched on, if not check earth wire.

Ok I will check this out tomorrow. So the relay will fire when just the reds are on or when you turn the key and try to start (engage starter motor)?

I take it what you mean when the reds are on is that the ignition is turned on but engine hasnt started. The ignition relay is energised 100% of time when the engine is running or attempting to start engine. If that relay is not energised you will not get power to the ignition system. Where do you live, are there any other 300zx members in your area that could assist you?

I didn’t get a chance to check anything on the weekend. I live in north western Sydney. I have picked up a s2 PTU to replace my s1. Once I’ve replaced that and check for spark, I will check the ignition relay snd let you know what I find. I Appreciate your help and advice :) if after I’ve checked these and still not getting spark, would you then think maybe CAS?

I for one have never had a CAS fail, have had dirty connection pins and broken wires at the plug.

Go buy yourself a can of Aero-start or Start-ya-bastard from an auto store. Open the butterflies and give it a squirt in both sides. Then crank it over. If there is any fire in any of those holes, its gonna go bang or pop. That will give you a real quick answer to whether you have any spark.

Had to check me PTU connection for ground. Ok had them the right way. I’m getting spark now. Has fuel at the filter. Ignition relay fires. Still won’t start. The only code I get on the dash is 13 engine temp sensor. The other day I did it on the ecu and I got knock sensor. Would either one of those prevent it from starting? Does the code flash all issues one after the other or do you have to clear them to get to the next code and so on?

have you tried some start ya basted.
Even those you've flushed the fuel its possible that sitting for 7 years the fuel could have gone off and caused the injectors to stick shut.

How do the spark plugs look? Fouled or glazed?
