well it started off as just going to fix the water line to one of the turbos, but quickly changed into a long list of jobs...... manual conversion timing belt, tensioner and all the idlers plenum pull hicas removal larger radiator reconditioned turbos reconditioned injectors and a few small minor mods and it is going very slowly as this is the first z that i have worked on...ah the pain of it all. will post some pics of the progress once i get the photos downloaded in a few days:rofl:
ok, maybe i wont add any photos, maybe i am not that good with computers afterall. lets just hope i am better at getting my zed to go again. so this was the first 300zx that i ever worked (first car of any make for about 15 years) and ill be honest, it was not easy. thanx to all of you who have helped out with parts and technical info along the way. another week or so and hopefully it will be going
aaahhhh!!!! every time i take something apart on my engine i find another part broken. almost over this car.
start assuming everything is broken, makes the truth much less bitter in the long run. think about that first drive, and how good it'll be
the first drive is about the only thing keeping me going at the moment mate. hopefully it happens soon before i lose it and do something stupid
Do it once and do it right. Learnt my lesson after the 3rd or 4th time... There are no shortcuts! If a shortcut was really a shortcut, it would just be 'the way'...
you sound a lot like my brother mike, he is a mechanic and yes we are doing it all the right way, which also ends up being the expensive way, but hey it should be all good for quite a while once it is all done
It is LOTS more expensive to do it a few cheap times first and then once right, than it is to just do it once right...
ok, quick update, without photos, -rear main seal changed along with all cam and crank seals -sump removed cleaned and resealed -entire hicas system removed, hicas lock bar fitted -reconditioned turbos taken apart and put back together properly and fitted to engine along with new exhaust gaskets -new timing belt tensioner fitted along with new bearings in both timing belt idlers. -intake replaced with new head-intake gaskets along with new knock sensor and wiring sub-harness (thanx awegazm) ok that was a rather busy day, hopefull get as much done again tomorrow
yeah it was so hectic, but i want to get as much done as possible beform monday, bro goes back to work then and i should prob look for a job myself.
so annoyed......... paid a electronic fuel injection specialist to recondition my injectors...and the idiot put them together 180 degrees the wrong way. injector clips are facing inwards and would foul on the plenum if i tried to fit it. not to happy with the amount of cash i paid the bloke. so long story short the motor is still not back together fully, take the injectors back tomorrow
hey dont forget to replace bolts holding idlers on ive heard they can snap and off come the belt matt
