hey guys, got a little issue with the front passenger seatbelt - it doesn't always suck itself in... therefore floppy belt everywhere....

I am about to take the door apart to see if its fixable - has anyone had this issue and could you fix it? Until i open it up and have a look, i don't know how hard or easy it is - first to admit "I have no idea what i'm about to do" pmsl...

Can anyone give me a heads up or advice please? and yes i have read in the tech section - it only gives info on the rear belts not the front...

    Thanks
    Turt

Inertia reels are a sealed unit, when you weigh up the risk vs return, its probably safer to purchase new ~$90. It might help to go to an RTA approved fitting station to get a new one fitted.

Take this with a grain of salt, but I heard somewhere if you put some graphite poweder into it it can help with the recoil?

Try the lubrication trick first with graphite powder.
If that doesn't work, try moving the rear belts to the front if they are the same (presuming 2+2).

I would NOT recommend trying to tension it, the spring is a coiled spring in a plastic enclosure with the inertia mechanism in the centre. Getting it wrong could see you or little turtle seriously injured in an accident.

Ya she's not in the front that often, but when it went on her yesterday , i pulled over and she got into the back, whilst the belt is nicely tucked around the handle...

Silly question maybe... where do you get this graphite powder from?

Get graphite powder from a hardware shop. It's sold to lubricate padlocks etc that cannot get greased. Usually comes in a bottle that puffs the graphite into the lock, or in a dry stick form. Hell, even ripping the guts out of a writing pencil will work if you grind it down small enough to get it in there.

you can also try cleaning the belt sash itself, using warm soapy water or a steam cleaner......the oils on your skin/body build up in the belt and make it tacky, preventing easy retraction of the belt........you will be surprised how much gunk comes out/off the belts

I chucked mine in a bucket of detergent water overnight, took it out and dried off in the morning and it was retracting fine again! Also when you bolt it up make sure the seat belt assembly is sitting on a 45deg angle (for door mounted)

Ok, i slightly pulled the door trim off around where the belt goes into the door.... pooofed a bit of the graphite in there. At first the belt retracted but then i couldn't pull it back out again - only an inch or two... so after a bit of fiddling and telling her if she didn't co-operate i'd well her... hehe always works... bit more fiddling bits all back on and she seems to be working fine. Best test will be when i get lil turt from school this arvo.

Atm - i would rather lil turt in the front as i am still waiting on the hatch window to arrive from japan so it can get replaced.... lil turt doesn't really like being in the back til its fixed.

A big thanks to all that gave me help and will let you know if she needs a belt transplant
