Round 1 of the 2005 AMR CAMS WA Speed Event Series was held last night at Wannaroo Raceway - nothing better than night racing! Franz had his zed entered in this round, and ended up taking out 1st place in the Production Sports over 3201cc... which is a damn good effort considering the standard of cars at the event!! 12th overall quickest in a field of 55 competitors - which included alot of track-built cars! what makes it more impressive is he was kicking some ass against these cars in a "near-stock" 15yo 300zx, with 3 year old r-comp tyres and Bendix Ultimate pads!! highlight of the night for me was seeing the zeds rotors glow - and spark!.... good thing i had a camera handy! have a look at how hard Franz was pushing: Rotors Glowing Vid (High) Rotors Glowing Vid (Low) Its good to see a zed out there representing what the old girl can still do! and WELL DONE to franz for taking out the win! well deserved! ::Risk::
Superb FranZ and good camera work too Andrew Gave those Ultimates a work out didn't he. Question: Took out his class in the over 3201cc Class?? Has FranZ bored out the engine? Or do the turbos put him in a different Class?
Way to go franz....I bet they didn't see you coming... And andrew...some great footage, those brakes look mean as. Paul
Cheers Guys I'm really stoked. Didn't expect to do so well. I only entered for fun (hence using really really really crappy R Comps) and cos I've never driven around Barbagallo Raceway at night! I'm in the 3201cc+ category because as a general rule IIRC turbos multiply engine capacity by 1.7 (rotaries multiply by 1.3). Sadly my VG30DETT is stock! I've looked at my rotors; aside from the surface cracks I had to start with, doesn't look like there are any new cracks, but the rotors are white! haha
well done Franz - r u coming to the Z nationals at Easter? would be interesting to see how our Zs compare.
Rears don't glow because there isn't as much force applied to them! 77% of braking is done by the front of the vehicle, the rear only stabilises the car... it takes alot more effort and continual braking to get the rear rotors glowing. I did some research today and found that rotors start glowing at 700 degrees celsius!
Sadly no... its a bit of a longer treck for me to get there than for you! I really want to get my zed over there and onto some tracks tho... Time and money prevent this from happening now
Nice work by Franz and Risk - questions .... Was this a lap sprint type event or an actual race? Long circuit or short circuit? If long circuit, what was your best lap time? I don't know the short circuit so times wouldn't mean much. Congrats on the class win - and yeah, 1.7 is the turbo factor for Z Nats ... means I got a 5 litre Z!!!!!
