That is a great price! So that covers all import taxes etc Of course distribution would cost a little more once landed...

    Ok that sounds good.

This was the email from Simon two days ago, note comes with warranty. I'm happy to go with coz if there are no hidden taxs and additional cost. Also for those saying they don't have the cash, neither do I. I was talking about ordering in june.

    UPDATE 27/3/08
    1. still waiting on ETA from date of order

    2. warranty is 12 months or 20,000km (standard NISSAN parts warranty)
** if warranty claim is required the vehicle is taken to any NISSAN dealer Australia wide, we provide
proof of purchase and the service department will complete an inspection to determine 1. damage
and 2. cause thereof, subject to findings they would rule as to valid warranty claim or not.

    3. minimum order quantity is 5 per part number (ie. 5+ TT or 5+ NA, not a mix of either)

    4. pricing is listed below (depending on qty I may be able to get a further price drop see blue text)
NOTE: the price drop is greater on the TT gearbox than the NA gearbox, this is due to Nissan offering
less discount on the local product.

    32010-45P61 (07/89 to 05/98) - TT $ 2,982.00 (TTZ web $ 3,567.63)
    32010-45P61 (07/89 to 05/98) - TT $ 2,796.61 (possible price dependent on qty & date of order)
    32010-45P71 (07/89 to 10/98) - NA $ 3,194.00 (TTZ web $ 3,336.79)
    32010-45P71 (07/89 to 10/98) - NA $ 3,050.85 (possible price dependent on qty & date of order)

    5. freight cost to capital cities via TNT Road Express estimated below, optional insurance $ 79.00
2000 (CBD and metro NSW, Sydney) $ 74.19
3000 (CBD and metro VIC, Melbourne) $ 57.82
    4000 (CBD & metro QLD, Brisbane) $ 101.92 * Nth QLD $ 177.46 (Rockhampton)
    5000 (CBD & metro SA, Adelaide) $ 74.19
    6000 (CBD & metro WA, Perth) $ 187.46
    7000 (CBD & metro TAS, Hobart) $ 167.45
    0800 (CBD & metro NT, Darwin) $ 300.11

I am interested, but concerned about the duty.

I didn't find anything definitive in scanning the other posts - apologies if I missed it.

Anyway, if the parts are hit the same way as my car was when I imported it from the UK, the shock could be pretty big.

Using the numbers from my car import on a gearbox at say $2000 + $400 freight, it would go like this:

    Cost $2000
    Duty at 10% $200
    Freight $400
    Total Landed Cost $2,600
    GST $260
Total Cost $2,860 + port charges + AQIS (who will surely want to stick their heads in the boxes). For my car AQIS charged a $113 "processing fee" followed by an order for a car wash ($210  ) then an order for a second car wash (free :bow2: ) but AQIS charged another $80 AQIS to reinspect :( .

Customs Broker "handling and miscellaneous" charges were another $221. There was $40 for quarantine processing and $200 "Customs Brokerage Fee" and $50 wharf handling fee. Import APSC was $83.40 whatever that is - but it might be part of the $221 handling and miscellaneous above. Anyway, total fees and charges, excluding the freight were $2,510 on a car they valued at $9,829 (incl freight) - that's at touch over 25%.

Anyway, there a lots of ways they have found to get their hands in your pocket. However all the processing fees would be split among the participants which lessens their impact on a per unit basis. Nevertheless, there is a concern that the total could be getting close to the price quoted for a locally sourced gearbox once all the charges and fees are identified and evaluated.

...and yes the "Landed Cost" approach means they do charge GST on the freight and on the import duties and on the processing fees. A tax on a tax - gee just like petrol :bash:

I know some people have been lucky to get their big dollar personal imports through without charges. However, I doubt a big box with 5 or 10 gearboxes in it would look like personal shopping.

If anyone has some accurate figures or experience with dutiable spare parts imports (rather than whole cars) I would appreciate hearing about that. A new late model box sounds peachy :).

    hidden taxs and additional cost

Yes their will be macman! the price quoted is landed nothing more. I'm looking into extra charges/fees atm. Its possible, with enough buyers, those extra charges/fees could be shared without to much pain.

If the delivered price ends up being around $2500, I would be in for it. Just like other people though, I won't have the cash till at least June.

    is this per part number?

Simons price was per 5 of each part number, ie. 5 TT boxes not 3 of one and 2 of the other, also is the price of $2500 TT or NA box, can you please get some more details so we know exactly what were looking at?

Since I have gotten to know the local Nissan guys pretty well the last few months since I have been doing zed work. I will get a quote from them on the TT boxes.

There is no point buying any NA boxes as the TT one fits right in and is stronger anyway.

    Interesting news

This morning I was talking to an engineering friend; I'm about to start work on his new factory. My friend is into hot rods, and has just brought am early blown rod from the states. I asked how the rod was being shipped and how much it would cost, and what import duty he is likely to be paying. His answer was that he knew, and as I turned out we both know, another guy who imports all kinds goods from the states, car parts engines furniture bikes ect.
He said the guy would have no problem shipping gearboxes (second hand or new) from the states in containers along with his own bits and pieces, and that the over all import cost off the TT boxes would be considerable less doing it this way. I won't go into how this is achieved, but I can say the boxes will be at a very good price. Our friend is in the states atm, but will be back in 2 weeks, and is planing a new shipment from the states in May this year. I will be speaking to him on his return in two weeks time.

that's the way go. i bought my coilovers using the same method and paid $1700 container vs $2000 normal methods. and it was a lot easier to just squeeze a set of coilovers in with a container of other parts the guy was importing.

    NA TT box

I thought there was a difference. I know they both fit but isn't there something you have to change to get a TT box into and NA? Also may is too early for me.

Yes, the starter won't fit without some slight mods to the bellhousing.

I thought the TT and NA g'boxs where the same except for the bellhousing? I know they have the same ratio's...

    Simple solution

order an NA to suite an NA, and a TT box to suite a TT.

  17. MAX

yes but you still have to answer

if the price is per part number or per number of items.

They are identical except the TT box has a shalower machined face for the starter motor to bolt to.

Seeing the NA box is $400 more expensive I would think it would be better ti get the TT box and get the start face machined 3mm deeper. Couldnt cost $100 to do that let alone $400

And yes the TT box will drop right in the NA's place.

Duh, great idea except the NA box is $400+ more expensive

    The difference

between the na and tt boxes is 40usd from czp, not $400.
    Duh!
