    red32 You talkin' to me?

Don't underestimate the fun you can (safely) have on a skid-pan... you've an Aus-spec N/A, remember!

I'm up for the 8th, Sandy!

Agree with Dougy. I'd never even think of doing a handbrake turn or power-oversteering on the streets or in a carpark... to much potential to do damage to the car if I mess up... but on the DECA skidpan (which is massive) there's nothing you can hit (apart from cones) and it's polished concrete so there's very little stress on the drivetrain. It's a good way to test the cars limits as well as your own.

I'm voting for a Sunday so we can drive up Saturday afternoon, have a nice dinner out, get a good nights sleep and then be at the track bright and early Sunday without the 2 hour travel.

Sounds like a good idea Pete, but so far only about 10 people have expressed interest but I know we would get more takers if we pursued this... but do you think we should go ahead and plan it anyway, potentially risking ourselves to losing money if we don't get the numbers?
That said, I think it would be possible for us to fill spaces with friends, other clubs if we don't get as many Zeds as we need. Would this be alright?

I think we have to go for it, but we need to have it planned and worked out (date/time/etc) with some deposits from people before we book. I'll enter, and I want my son to also have a go as he gets his licence next year and time on a skid pan and the back track are invaluable to him. I'll happily put my money up and pay the full $75 per head up front, and if Jen wants a go then that means 3 of us.

Since filling this day with members of other clubs should not be a problem (SAU days are filled in hours) we should be able to hold spots for our own members until roughly 2 to 3 weeks from the day.

We really need some firm figures and dates though, and my advocating a Sunday run has probably just thrown a cat amongst it all.

Saturday or Sunday... which one is better? I was thinking Saturday at first but the Sunday idea is good with the meetup but then again we don't want the competitors hitting the booze... :) Also if the day wraps up at 5-6ish on Sunday then even with a 2hour drive back most people will be home by 8-9ish so not so bad for work the next day.
Any more votes? And we do need about 8 people to pay when we book so we can meet the deposit... if we count Peter's 3, Ryan, Ben and myself then only 2 more and we can get the deposit down and get it rolling.

    p.s. 1000th post... again... :)

Im very intereted, just working out which method of getting an approved CAMS or AASA licence would be the best...Would this be classified as a Ns2 or s2 event under CAMS regulations? Its only $80 isnt it for a s2 CAMS licence? I guess Pete would be one of the best to ask? Any additional costs...oh and I'm aware that I'd need to sign up with NDSOC first

Bonus is I'll get a discount off my insurance if I get a CAMS licence :p Not sure how much I save though...I like Petes Idea, fri-sat or sat-sun arent a big deal for me as long as I know so i can get my shifts changed at work..

Any idea about accommodation up that way? Obviously an additional cost...

    Cheers, Andrew

im up for both...and if we do it on a sunday and drive back sunday night i reakon that it will be alright coz we all will be driving together and we can do stops at certain times...this way we dont get bored driving home and get tired...but look before the dates get booked out i reakon we decide now before anything else...also ben should be able to grab a few guys like he said...so numbers arent a worry i reakon...sandeep get it for the sunday i reakon this way its a saturday that we all drive up together and people having a chance to come as it is a weekend event (presuming alot of people have saturday off and work fridays)...im in either way but looking at the drag tag event i think people will be more interested on the saturday driving up and the sunday event...thats my thoughts though:D:cool:

cant we just get something like a day pass instead of paying a years worth for a cams licence?

The place I stayed at was pretty good. I'll try and get a name off my friend who booked it but I think there was 5 of us and we booked 2 rooms and it came to about 40 each.

We're selling AASA licences on the day. It'll be 50dollars and will last you a year... just remember that if we do hold another one of these events then you'll be sweet to drive in it and won't have to pay again and it works out being cheaper as the AASA's insurance is alot cheaper than any other places.

I'll ask about day licences though but not sure if they are available anymore.

Let's get this rolling then. Would the people that expressed interest be happy to chip in the 75 each for entry so that we can get a deposit together and book a date? After we have the date I can fill out those insurance forms and get our cover sorted.

    BigCol That's what she said...

So the costs for those of us that don't have CAMS/NDSOC memberships would be (approximately):

$75 - cost of DECA day
    $80 - NDSOC joining fee
    $88 - Cams Level 2 Speed Licence

Is this right? And do we need helmets / gloves / fire extinguishers etc as well?

Could do it that way or
    $75 Entry fee
$50 AASA 1 year licence (no club membership required)
but if you want a CAMS L2S licence then joining the NDSOC or SAU VIC will be your best options.
Will enquire about purchasing day licences tomorrow but pretty sure they don't exist anymore. Also I think you'll have to sort out your CAMS licence before the day as we can't sell them... Unless we get the NDSOC to back the event. Might have a chat to someone about that too.

Helmets required for the backtrack but seeing as there's only 1 car on at any time I guess we might be able to get away with sharing if people who bring helmets are cool with that. But bringing your own helmet would be prefered. No requirements for gloves or Fire-Extinguishers but you will have to wear a long sleave shirt and pants (no exposed skin on the arms except hands or legs).

By the time I finish work on the friday and get home it is nearly 7.00pm. Once I get the cars and family ready to go it would be 7.30 at the earliest. From our place to Shepp it would be about 3 hours, so we wouldn't get there till around 10.30. As you can see going up on the Friday really doesn't work for us.

How about we leave melbourne at around 11am on the saturday morning as a group? (or 2 groups, one for s.e and one for the rest of melb lol, and then join later down the road).

That way we can arrive in shepperton before 4pm, book in our hotel room, put all our stuff away and prepare it for tomorow, and then go have a group dinner or something?

was actually thinking of going in my z, since it should be painted by dec, with the new nose panel for air to be put into the radiator, and time to buy some decent tyres..

i want to unleash it on the track instead of the road from now on!

but if i end up deciding against driving or if something goes wrong with the z, i would gladly take up your offer doug :D :D :D

RedZedMikey RZM should now be DZM

I'll throw my hat in the ring for this exercise too, so long as it doesn't clash - December could be quite busy for me. I hope to be able advise some good Zed related news by the middle of next week.

Hadn't started RZ1 for 4 months after the GOR cruise when it all went sour. Moved her recently so we could pull the radiator for Jedi to borrow it - put a new battery in and she fired after about 1 second! Jeez I miss driving a Zed .................... hopefully soon I'll be doing some Z driving Paul Walker style, 12 seconds at a time :D.
