We used to paint diesel engines for fire pumps with pretty normal 2 pack Dulux paint and it held up fine everywhere except for the exhaust manifold and turbine housing.

another engine ends up on the scrap heap .. HAND GRENADE STYLE.. oh dear... such possibility.. maybe next time dont hit the surge tank with a hammer :eek::eek::eek::eek: or do your own custom tuning :eek:

Back in business after rebuilding the engine.
Some piccis to share. Went for a drive today and car runs like a dream. Hope to get a base dyno tune tomorrow.

Biggest mistake when dropping engine last time...circled green.

    Which is now fixed.

    New addition..
Oil temp and pressure gauge which is now connected with ECU to shut down the engine if pressure drops less than 15 psi.

2nd WBO2 for left dump pipe.

who did the engine work and assembly?

orger engine in vic have done the short block and heads. clive got his engine built from them so I went for carbon copy what clive went for. parts came from czp. orger engine has done oil pump, sump, rear main seal etc. southside engine center has done tomei head gasket and timing belt. rest by me. Thanks to aidan for stock short block and head. Everything was sent by train and they came back by train.

The machining on the block looks very coarse for MLS gaskets. Did you have any port work done?

Little bit on heads in intake side not in lower plenum though.
Forgot to thank you for your help and advice. Probably bothered you too much when stripping the old engine.

    did I miss something??

    a rebuild with wiseco pistons?

What happened to the greddy engine parts?

I had greddy piston and conrod.
spun bearing failed bcoz of oil starvation. So thats why rebuild. Greddy doesn't make new rings for these piston anymore so couldn't reuse them. I had stock valves so upgraded with 1 mm oversize, new titanium retainer and dual coil spring. Still have greddy con rod.

Car is more powerful and responsive. must be the valves.

definitely need valves for those turbos
did you go 89mm pistons again?

    Kabir Well-Known Member

actually it was 90mm greddy. so couldn't re-use my short block which has maxed out bore size. after speaking to few engine builder including greg@SZ and Techfpr 88mm was the best option to minimize hot spot. so I went for 88mm.

greddy do make a 89mm piston
as do wiseco and tomei off the shelf

funny thing is the americans say 88 max bore and the japanese say 89mm is fine..
    Japanese designed these engines ;)

    Nissan VG30 Info
Nissan's VG engine family consists of V6 piston engines designed and produced by Nissan for several vehicles in the Nissan lineup. VG engines displace 2.0L, 3.0L, and 3.3L and feature an iron block and aluminum head. Early versions featured SOHC and 12 valves for mid-range power. Later versions featured DOHC with 24 valves and variable valve timing for increased high RPM efficiency and smoother power delivery. The VG series engine was installed in thousands of Nissan vehicles, starting in 1984. The VG design was retired in 2004, when Nissan went to the all aluminum VQ series V-6 engine. OEM availability is listed at the bottom of the page...
    Versitility...
...the VG series engines are very versitile. All of the VG blocks share all of the same engine/transmission and accessory mounting bosses/locations, making mixing and matching parts from FWD to RWD configuration very easy. The VG30 and VG33 blocks are nearly identical other than bore size and minor water routing differences. Boring out a VG30 block to a VG33 bore size results in the same wall thickness as a VG33.

may be you are correct but checked with czp and rhdjapan and both confirmed greddy don't make these pistons anymore more vg30dett and no replacement rings.

Everything looks good except one issue I see. Your machinist/builder didn't remove the oil galley plugs and clean the block out thoroughly. This could be a culprit of yours in the future with oil debris dislodging and cause you problems. Just making you aware thats all. Outside of that things look good. Glad I could help you with some of the issues you had with assembly and so forth.

    Good luck with everything

hmm interesting. according to my invoice they did clean the oil gallery and coolant path. I have few more pics with close shot. will check them again.

I really hope they did do it ... mine didn't, after about 30 min of running both the rings and bearings were stuffed, there was actually shit laying in the bottom of the sump.

I was "lucky" I had to pull the engine down after such a short period of running trying to resolve another issue.

Just confirmed and they have used new plugs and cleaned up the oil gallery. This is a standard for any engine building job. I have called them and it is in my invoice too. They have mentioned that they do this for all engines they have ever worked on.

nothing like a freshly rebuilt engine going bang because of gunk blocking the one way oil valve causing no oil to flow into the heads = seizure/snapped cams like mattz :( BDE is making a removable unit for the zed now that solves this problem

Checked oil pressure at idle and it is 30-32 psi at 900 rpm idle when warm and goes upto 55 psi at 2000 rpm. Cold start oil pressure is 95psi. Simmo is it too high? Checked dipstick and oil is in max level. Should I drain some oil?
