Engine Cont fuse blows regularly

    Hey All,
My car continuously blows the Engine Cont fuse.
It first happened on the road coming home from Albany to Perth.
I put my foot down put the right indicator on and moved right
Immediately 2 lights popped up the brake light on the dash and the Lights signal on the warning panel just below.
With help from Chris my trusty mechanic he found that it was caused by the engine cont fuse.
We changed the fuse and it lasted for 25minutes driving slow n sensible.
Since then it seems every time I put my foot down for some quick acceleration after turning a corner it blows the Engine cont fuse.
It is damn annoying and if I do not remove the air conditioner fuse before putting the New Eng Cont fuse in it just blows..
    Anyone any idea?
Things in common turning right with indicator on and afterwards booting the accelerator.
Then cant put in new fuse without removing Air con fuse.
Aircon has not been on when fuse has blown

The fuse is blowing for a reason and trying to prevent a fire from electrical arcing!

The reason is you have an earthing out of a positive wire - this wire may have already melted onto the other wire since they can be close making the problem common to both.

You need to find this earthing out rather than keep replacing the fuse or you will melt wires or start a fire.

Most likely the wire is cross related to the indicator and brake light - the points where they intercede is under the plastic of the steering column/ the fuse box/ under the dash and at the rear. Given you mention turning right, I think it may be neer the steering column

Start testing the continuity between those wires from one connection to the next - I would start from the column back.

If you think it has something to do with the accelerator, then check around there first.

    Engine Cont Fuse

Do you know which circuits are protected by the Engine Cont fuse?
If not, perhaps you could have a look in the Nissan Factory Service Manual, in the EL Section.
The fault will be related to one of these circuits.
    A multimeter would be handy.

I could be wrong (don't have a circuit diagram in front of me) but if my memory serves me correctly when my boost gauge stopped working the fuse I had to replace was the engine cont fuse.
So my guess is your boost gauge reading high boost is blowing the fuse- can that happen?

    Interesting theory.....

Let me rephrase that....It is inconceivable that a properly operating boost sensor and/or boost meter can supply/draw anything like the amperage necessary to blow the engine cont fuse even at 30psi...but who knows what a malfunctioning or shorting out one can do. Its a very very long shot (but I'd rather give you something than nothing) and at present you don't have much else to go on.

You can test the crazy boost sensor involvement idea by disconnecting it (in a way that doesn't introduce a vacuum leak) and seeing if WOT still causes the fuse to blow.

Maybe you have a dodgy wiring job under the dash with a cable running through the fire wall in the accelerator pedal area ( I have seen it before ) so that when you push on the gas pedal a cable shorts out. Worth a good look under the dash with a light.
    Happy hunting

    Many thanx to you all

Wow in one day I have had so many ideas. All are worth looking into
My mechanic is ezupturbo, I will ask him to read these answers and see if we can trace the fault.. Once again to one and all thank you
And to the bloke who mentioned I might jut have a boost meter to make it look like it goes faster yes I did chuckle very well done  Cheers to all Bobby

The first lesson of owning a Z is to develop a sense of humour.

The first lesson of owning a Z is to develop a sense of humour. :)

Your first look in the engine bay provides the reason why! :D

Congratulations - Sounds like your learning quickly and goodluck with it! ;)

engine cont fuse blowing is usually caused from a vtc plug or 02 plug.. my zx had same issue was the driver side vtc plug from memory melted on the back of the exhaust header.. i just put some elec tape on it and it fixed it temporarily.. i can check exactly what plug it was later today when i pick my zx up

    Found this on the net.

Could be worth investigating if you run out of ideas...........

If the idiot lights on the dash for the HICAS, lights, and brakes are lit, replace the 10 amp Eng Cont fuse in the fuse box under the hood.

If the Eng Cont fuse continues to blow when replaced, pull the 10 amp A/C fuse just below the Eng Cont fuse.
Try the Eng Cont fuse again.
If the Eng Cont fuse does not blow with the A/C fuse out, unplug the auxilliary fan in front of the radiator and put the A/C fuse back in.
If Eng Cont fuse still blows with the A/C fuse out, the possible cause is a bad "bulb out" relay.
This relay is located on the back of the fuse panel inside the car, in the kick panel, next to the clutch.
