there's a difference in quality of polishing

The polish you get from UAS or TTZ is pretty rough and you would be laughed at a car show if you thought it was of show quality. All they've done is a basic linish and hit it with the buff so you end up with polished scratch marks (like what I've seen on Fleets plenum). I don't lower my standards that far and hence charge accordingly. I don't actively sell them or tell people I do it but instead I get asked to do them and people seem to be prepared to pay a bit more for the extra quality with flat smooth polished surfaces and not some bumpy polished surface.

Ask a polisher next time how much they would charge to do a show quality polish on every square inch of a 300ZX plenum and I would be surprised if they said anything lower than $700. I charge $1200 so no-one will ask me to do it.

To do my plenums I spend around 30-40 hours to complete polishing only the visible parts and to do a complete manifold would take around 80 hours and that's with the right equipment to do the job. I take care only to remove what is necessary on the outside so the inside can be extrude honed without fear of breaking through.

the staging lanes are 90 degrees off to the side

of the drag strip so no car can be hit with the hot air from the exhaust.

I will pay money to the person who can see a 22 hour difference

in the visible part of my manifold to one that has been polished to show quality. BTW the polishing simon can get done can be show quality if you wish. He gave me the choice and i got to choose in person between quick polishing, show quality and chrome on the water pipes. There is a huge difference between the 3. He had one manifold polished to show quality once and from memory it was $750 or something to complete it. Some places charge ridiculous amounts especially when they have the right tools. I believe the dremels myself and ben used had variable speeds from 5000-30,000rpms and i can tell you that on 30,000rpms stuff happens pretty quickly  Each to their own though.

btw i never said it would be 'real' money :p

    And the SMOKE

I might be getting old as I hate the smoke but some like it.
I was behind this crazy young guy 2rismo in his Skyline on NOS when he did one of his huge burn outs which was pretty much similar every time actually.

    Everything you say is correct>>

But that is precisely why UAS's polished Plenumns are, to use your words "rough". They are done by a commercial Metal Polishing shop in Western Sydney (the same one that polished the Chili M/Cyl braces), and they too, were done to a price. How much would JP have to charge for a plenumn, if it cost him $700-$1200 to have the polishing done? And, perhaps more to the point, how many would he be likely to sell?

As someone who has polished several of these, you would know just what a bad quality casting they are (countless bubbles, pits, and waves), every one of which, requires increased time (and money) to try and remove.
Being the basis of a "show car", was never the intended function of these plenumns. They were for someone who wanted their car to look a bit more "loved". :zlove::zlove::zlove:

Who won the dyno? Didn't realise it was a competition Richard.

I must have forgotten to claim my 'king dick' crown. I'd gladly give it to you seeing as your more deserving of the title.

I am content with my 310 and not planning to go further. I dont need to compensate for something else im lacking in. My car is extremely street driveable and the fact of the matter is, it actually made it there on the day.
How many kw did yours put out last Saturday? Oh that's right, it couldnt go anywhere. How many kw do you think you would have gotten if you pushed it down the driveway?
Listen, you're a bit confused. Nobody intended to bag your car and congratulations on your 411, but I think the way you went about declaring yourself 'almighty' was in bad taste. You're as humble as Muhammad Ali.
So good luck with your endeavour to break a 10, but please don't be disappointed if we don't bow down and praise you. I hope thats not what you're expecting.

    Have a good one.
    Ryan.

lol, you don't need 400+rwkw to run a 10. As long

as your happy with what you have then who cares what other people think. Just remember, there is always someone who is going to have more than what all of us have, just because they don't come on the forum doesn't mean they don't exist!
