The little bit of plastic that hangs off the end of the drivers side lock barrel inside the door broke off on mine. Nissan only sells the lock and plastic rod holder thingy together for $115 so I said stuff that. Cresta had none as everyone else seems to have had the same problem. I resorted to making one from a block of alloy and it works a treat. It took 4 hours to make but at least it will never break. I can't find my camera so I couldn't take a picy.
At least you'll be safe from BOWER birds at Gilgandra, eh?See you at BP Gundi ... how many meeting there?Just finished applying AUTOSKIN & fitting mesh ... cost stuff all, took about an hour. Come-on LOCUSTS!!!PS: Do we have a 'point-man' with special powers?Cheers, Rob. :-Z
My drivers lock no longer works Could it be the same problem? Key just turns past the point it would normally lock or unlock the door and there is something rattling in there.
Never use my key, remote locking...... I guess that's one zed fault I will NOT encounter, Yahoo; there's one that doesn't need to go on the list }D
I have two CB radios that are good for up to 3Km (unless there is a repeater which will extend that distance). I will give one to the point man and I'll take the other for the rear. If anyone has problems then I'll be able to tell the point man that we are pulling over.I've finally got the gearknob installed the correct way round, fixed the door lock, fixed shock controller motors from spinning. Just another 100 jobs to go before I leave on Friday
yep would be the same problem. you need to take the door trim off and shine a light up near the lock and you should see a translucent yellow plastic bit on the back of the barrel and then a solid yellow clip with a rod hanging off it. If you don't see that then the plastic bit has broken.
5 to 7 Zeds I think I'm wondering whether I should worry about washing the car before leaving. I'm hoping a good wax will make the bugs peel off easier.
Mine also shorts something electrical It blows the interior illumination fuse if the lock mechanism is plugged in.
Same happened to me a few years ago. I made a new one out of an offcut of Delron round stock (that black nylon type stuff). Works fine.
Metal? We have seen quite few car with these snapped or cracked. We bought one from a wrecker recently second hand and noticed it had a metal one and looked factory. We were thinking of getting them made in plastic but when we saw this we decided to make them in alloy. Fiddly job but works well. Could make out of mild steel or staino but a bit harder. Prob with harder metals is filing out the slots which are quite fin. Nylon could be an option also. The factory ones are brittle and old and crack. Any of these materials should be stronger than the factory plastic ones.
