I'm pulling my engine and manual GB in a couple of weeks and replacing both of them. As part of that I'll need to use my old (almost new) clutch and install it in the new setup. Is this a difficult procedure and do I need any special tools (clutch alignment tool?). Will largely be learning as I go as this is my first engine pull so it's very likely this will be one of a further threads to come
you'll need a clutch alignment tool. they're not terribly expensive. i've got one your welcome to borrow if you like.
Thanks Martin. I see they are pretty cheap, might be just as easy to buy one. Just watched a YouTube video on how to and it looked pretty straight forward.
A torque wrench of appropriate size is a good idea too, flywheel bolts aren't super sensitive to incorrect torque but if you haven't had experience setting torque before it might be hard to do free hand and you don't want to break them or have them come loose.
I have two different sized torque wrenches so should have that covered. Any idea what torque setting would be required? Is this something i should search for in the FSM?
FSM is a very good idea, off the top of my head I would say 90Nm but there is every chance that is incredibly wrong
YES! Clutch Alignment Tools are only about $1-$2 each(and can be purchased at any Clutch/Flywheel workshop). They are practically a "throw away" item.:zlove:
Clutch alignment tool is normally found in the box with your [new] clutch. EBay sell them, as do Repco and Supercheap Auto. http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/on...ool-Universal.aspx?pid=133585#Recommendations
The item that I referred to is just a small, Black plastic, splined item that you are expected to throw away after use. I've used them for decades.
The fancy looking ones suit multiple engines and they're pretty good too. Work well for the serial DIY type character.
Thanks for all your input. Sounds like for a change this is not the tool you need to pay for the best quality. So just going to order one off ebay....... http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/291291838337?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
Must be good to have so much money that you can throw it away. How many times are you going to use this thing? How about I send you one(and you give me the $18.95 you're sending to Melbourne)?:zlove: The small black plastic item in this link is all you will ever need. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/FX-STAGE...r_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item258c2ee918
That may be the case but since I don't have one I have to buy one of those clutches to get it, or pay you the same amount that I've already paid the guy in Melbourne
You DON'T have to buy the Clutch Plate to get one of these tools. I have already advised you that they can be purchased for around $2 at any Clutch Service workshop(I'm sure there is one in the Industrial area behind Warringah Mall). I'm trying to save you money and time Marcus.:zlove:
If that were the case Loyd you would have told me not to buy a Z all those years ago!!! It's a bit bl00dy late now.
Those are shithouse. I'd throw mine away if I didn't pay so much for it (needed it then and there and no other choice). You'd be better off using a old broom handle. The plastic ones Chili is talking about are the way to go. Work like a champ.
Jim berry threw one in the kit i bought. Black plastic one Ithink its the same as czp sells. He also machined out a dowel thing to get the brass bush out. Now I got every tool I need to do clutches. I am sure in the FSM it lists out tools needed in the section.
