Fired up the Zed this morning, only to find my power steering has got very heavy, almost dead. Did a search and found a couple of things, speedo related or lower solenoid. Speedo works fine, has not miss a beat, so I took out the solenoid and replaced it with another. Checked resistence, compared both and same reading. Went for a drive with the spare one installed and steering is still dead.?????? I found another thread that mentioned the Electronic Control Assembly for the Power Steering. I had a look under the passenger foot well and could not locate it (maybe because I don't know what it looks like ), can anyone describe the ECA for me or am I barking up the wrong tree? I have no Hicas and my pump is modified, I have recently added a cooler for the PS, but it was working fine for a couple of weeks. Any suggestions???
There should be 2 little boxes to the left of the ECU. I think the P/S is the one underneath the cruise control unit on top
There are some wires leading to the pump/motor under the car near the oil filter. I knocked the connection off once(had to solder a new connection on) when doing an oil change so it might be worth a check. Power steering works a treat now..
Here is the service manual diagnostic to walk through, if you follow it through to the end, you will find the problem: Precautions 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 Good luck
I found that a blown fuse in the drivers footwell causes the "ABS" light on the dash to illuminate. In my case, this restored power steering.
