as a couple opf you know I am attempting to custom fabricate a bar from an old front bar and something else from the pile of old bars we have at work to replace my veilside fakie fits like crap fibreglass ebay POS. (although I actually dont mind the genuine well made version of said bar).

so I have taken a stock bar (Cheers Chevzed) that has a fair bit of bottom lip damage and hacked it to bits,
I also have chosen one of these to donate a bottomk lip and lovely big intake for my FMIC

after a few days of cutting and bodging I have a a couple of preliminary shots of the bar starting to come together

I know this is not to everyones taste and already have a flame suit on but thought I would post up my progress anyway for those who know about my little project.

There is a lot of plastic welding etc and cleanup to come and the inside is still to be reinforced with fiberglass, but so far I am back about $13 for this so I am quite happy to pour a little more time into the idea

No doubt the flame suit will help :p but as i say to each their own in choice of bits and pieces to personalize their rides. I'm sure once it's finished it's going to look good and suit your car and you. Some hate veilside, some hate bromex etc but it's what you feel happy with, and man if you can rebuild a bar from donor bits and pieces for next to nothing then bahhhhh go for it.

I actually quite like it, looks clean. Doesn't look to crazy and out there, but still different enough and practical.

    Nice work :)

cheers the goal was something with a big intake for the FMIC but still retaining some lines and not over stated. In the end is an experiment, just so see what was possible, I had other donor bars in mind ( VE and a VX SS bar, a BA XR8 and a few others but the big issue is the width, while our cars may be reasonably wide as far as carfs in gerneral go the front edge of the stock bar is actually quite narrow.

the issue I am trying to deal with is even air flow across the 2 parts of the intercooler, and trying to be a little bit different, the original honeycomb insert for the hyundai bar has the top half blanked solid and the license plate mounted there, not sure whether I will use one or make something else up, but by mounting the plate in the opening it will restrict air flow but it will also break the gap up

I kinda like it... has potential and provided you know what you're doing and the finished product comes out at a high quality, I'd say you'd have a very unique winner on your hands. :)

Funny enough, the sad thing it is still far better then some of the other Front Bar options already out there for the Zed in that current condition, heh.

    Good luck!

You could always mount the number plate to the sides of the bar, but all depends on your state transport rules on acceptable placement. If it's legal and doesn't detract from the look your after then that's an option and it keeps your airflow the way you want.

yeah that was my first thought for plate location, I do have to look into the legality of it. Going on what I know already the plate has to be visible from a certain angle eitherside, not sure of the actual figure but so long as there is good visibility from all points infront I dont believe I will have too many issues (above the normal ones with the boys in blue). remember this car had a crappy veilside copy on before and if anything can raise the hackles of the police one of those will

 The boys in Blue love ruining peoples artistic expressions, but it's okay for them to joyride around or go running around naked when their plastered on a bucks night. If W.A Transport say it is okay and you get pulled over be polite and show them the paperwork, puts a stop too their party pooping antics.

Looks good. See, flame suit not required.
That will come up a treat when its welded and painted.
    One question: it it a Bro-side or a Veil-mex :)

Quick update, first lot of glass and resin as a test (applied across the centre front only) for the adheashion and other aspects also a trial fit, just as well I now see my driving lights hit the intake pipes I am considering agutting them fitting a LEDs behind the lenses.

I have used a polyester resin here (I was originally going to use epoxy but am unable to find a local supplier so I thought I would try some of this seeing as I have it already). surprisingly I have found it adheres really well to the original bar material not so well to the newer black material of the I30.
