how many people would buy a fibreglass custom sub/amp box? for 2, 2+2 zeds?

we are thinking of having a few designs for 12" subs and then custom it for your size of amp...

could be covered in cloth or painted to match your paintwork... will have some photos and prototypes soon..

maybe for a few hundred $$ not sure.. just testing the interest..

well i was going to do mine.. so depending on price, and design

i already have the subs.. and the boot.. haha

they need to be as light as possible.. i dont want no super bling whole boot type enclosures

    dam it

i'm in the middle of doing my own one, it's taken me AGES
and cost me quite a big in fibreglass too! and it's getting quite heavy!

    hehe

mine fits in each corner, takes a 12inch, and has room in the middle to fit the targa roofs!

ie it's at both ends (1x12inch at each end)

well man if you want... once your finished and before you cover them bring them down to us we can make a mould of them and then reprouduce a lighter one off the mould for free if you like... (just we get to onsell them out of the mould..)

lol.. if you'd like we'd be happy to

i don't think you'd be able to do it so easily

because each enclosure is made up of 2 enclosures

there is the major one for the 12inch sub
and then a smaller one on top for a 3x6inch speaker which is on top and angled towards the back of the driver and passenger head - these 2 compartments are sealed and separated
also the drivers side one is designed to accomodate my air compressor which hides behind it in the corner of my car

i had pics on the old server, will post more up when i make some more progress - i've been kinda waiting for my EDFC from the Teins to come in since I have to accomodate them (my enclosures go over the top of the rear struts and have a hole in them to accomodate the rear strut bar)

also, my enclosures replace the plastic panels in the boot, it actually fits in against the frame and weather strip

but you guys know better than me whether or not you'd be able to reproduce it :) could you?

it can be done mate ;-) hehe with 2 halves of a mould it can be done..

plus, we like a challenge LOL...

but by the sounds of it yours is a 2 seater and mines a 2+2 so i think we will start playing with box designs for mine first...

but 'l still like to see yours so see if we can do it...

How much lighter are your fibreglass fenders than stock? Has anybody weighed the stock fenders?

fibre guards are generally about half the weight of steel ones

its negligible when considering the weight of a Z

fibreglass bonnets are actually heavier than the stock aluminium one

so does that mean a fibreglass bonnet would be good for an NA since the NA's come with a steel bonnet?? (what i have been told anyway)

yeah i've hear the carbon fibre bonnets are heavier so fibre prob is too, but interested to see the difference in the figures when we weigh them up

nah.. cf is lighter.. but only of 100% cf.. most cf bonnets are one layer of cf over a fibre bonnet

    what about

    some interior mods???

there arent a lot of aftermarket stuff for the zed interior, my thoughts are for a modified centre console, more modern?

yeah we were thinking that way too.. IE. sub boxes and front speaker boxes.. draw some sketches for what you want your center consol to look like and we'll have a play

with the fibreglass sub boxes... Just want to know do you build then to the specs of the sub or subs... I do have a box sitting here made to spec out of MDF for my sub but its too big and i wont have any boot space pretty much. But then again once the amps and crossover goes in i dont think i will have any space lol

Could people post up some designs of there boxes? or maybe have a look at the thread i started hehe

Sorry to go a bit off topic

but since you guys are being very helpful and informative.

I put my FMIC together last night and got it all to work nicely but when I go to put the front bar back on the pipes get in the way of the fibreglass pod that sinks into the bar here..

How can I safely trim the back of this area without damaging the FG or paint?

What about more along the lines of c/f dash, side switch pods, steering wheel shaft cover, center console, overhead console parts etc. Basically all the plastic parts that are in the interior?

well if you want to know how to work with painted fibreglass this is how you sand that bit back...

with a pretty soft sand paper sand it downwads towards the paint and only one way.... just lots of stokes downwards onto the pain means that you wont chip it of... keep going til that fits.. if you want just a simple mod like that come down to the shed $50 we'll do it on the spot for ya no problem aye..

hope that helps if not the explain it again for me LOL
