This is a bit of general info for all I guess.

The 300ZX TT blew a water hose and was driven to it stopped. (Not by me!) I refilled the radiator at 2.00am after a phone call, but it pumped the water out in about 5km and it was confirmed the next day that the CO in the water was 'off the dial'.

I opted to rebuild the existing engine as opposed to fitting a second hand engine.

The TORQUE TEAM in Brizzy got the job and I'm very happy.

The engine was compression tested out of interest and all pots came in at 150-155. The engine was pulled out and stripped. Even though it had good compression, the oil rings were flush to the piston edge and the bores were about 6 thou out.

The block was bored, 20 though ACL pistos went in, heads were straighten and tested for hardness, shaved with valves reset. The main bearing were screwed and therefore replaced. Every hose, seal and the belt was replaced. It was all put back together and have been driving it all week and am very happy with the engine. It goes better than ever.

They said they would never remove one of these engines again....but they would rebuild them. It doesn't cost much more to do this compared to putting in a used engine.

On that note you really don't know what a used engine has had done to it.

e.g. 1. The engine before it blew up had the belt replaced by PROLUBE ( sticker attached ) and it turns out that the belt was installed one notch out on one of the cams.

    2. The car had 90,000km on the clock, but the engine condition with regards to the main bearings, displayed wear associated with 200,000km.

Rebuilding is definately the way to go......you know what you have then.

The whole job cost $5700.00 inc GST and comes with a 15,000km/1 yr warranty.

Other quotes were all over 6k with one well known establishment quoting 8-10k depending on what exactly needed doing.

    because.....

they are engine rebuilders and are more than happy to rebuild engines and fit 'normal' engines...but the amount of plumbing on the 300ZX TT and the amount of tight fitted crap is more than they want to deal with. I think they are busy enough also!

Having said that, and don't hold me to it, but if you take the engine out and deliver it to them, I recon they would rebuild it for between 4 and 4.7 k...... pretty good for a rebuild I recon.
