Going to try and squeeze in a bit of a Show & Shine / BBQ / Get-Together before Christmas for anyone interested. I am posting this up tonight to get an idea of numbers. Will fill in the missing details over the weekend.

If you?re interested in attending please post your response as soon as possible so we can gauge numbers. If we can get enough numbers, I will have a look at organising some prizes for 1st, 2nd & 3rd placings for best car of the day (or something like this!!) Note: Details To Be Confirmed and dependent on reasonable numbers attending.

    Sooo....
    Event: Show & Shine / BBQ / Get-Together
    Date: Sunday 21st December
Venue: Bicentennial Park, (Olympic Park, Homebush, Sydney)
    Suggested time: 10:00am to 3:00pm

This will be a Show & Shine / BBQ & Get-Together for forum members and their families. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to come along.

Bicentennial Park is located in the Sydney Olympic Park Precinct.
Entry to the park is from Australia Avenue or Bennelong Parkway (More details later)
Click here for quick link to Bicentennial Park location map.

Bicentennial Park has lots of grassed areas and open space, kids play facilities, BBQ's and a number of cafe's and food outlets nearby. There are usually reasonable numbers of parking spots available but I suggest an early start will ensure a decent parking spot.

So, please let me know who?s interested.

    Cheers everyone.
    Chris

Hi Chris, I was under the impression you were considering going to IB's BBQ in Canberra on this date.
    What happened?

Yes mate originally I was. A couple of things to explain:
Firstly and unfortunately, my wife reminded me we have dinner with friends later in the evening on the 21st and I thought it was a bit of a task to do the ACT event as well make it home in time for the evening etc.

Secondly - A couple of weeks ago, I had mentioned to Rob260 that we should try and do something in Sydney like a social event etc - before Christmas. But we have been busy and it slipped off the radar.

I contacted Ian (IB) earlier today to see if it a Syd event would clash etc - Ian thinks not, so I decided to post the event for the Sydney crew. In a way this is my fault cos I should organised the Sydney event earlier - but everyone, myself including, has been busy and it slipped off the radar. Really just wanted to organise something for the Sydney crew that's all.

At this stage with the late notice - there's no guarantee we will pull enough numbers for the Sydney event anyway - but really wanted to try an organise something

    Update

If we can get about 8 or more Zed's there we will run a people's choice award for the best presented car on the day. A cool prize will be offered - more about that later.

Even if your Zed is off the road, as a couple of folks have already mentioned elsewhere.. please come along anyway for the opportunity to catch up with other forum members. :zlove:

    Update

OK, I did a quick scout of the park this morning. There?s a few things to note:

    How to get there
Bicentennial Park is located between Olympic Park and Homebush Bay Road. The only way to enter the park is from Bicentennial Avenue entry (a one way street), which is off Australia Avenue. There is a right turn bay for west bound traffic.

For those of you coming via the north using Homebush Bay Road, you will need to veer left and take the Olympic Park Exit. Use the underpass to Olympic Park, turning right at the roundabout (underneath the Homebush Bay Road flyover) onto Australia Avenue, and then taking the next right into Bicentennial Avenue. (Use the right turn bay).

Note the roundabout under the Homebush Bay Road flyover will be busy with DFO traffic just to the east ? waiting here could take 10 mins. (Cue the horns and yelling of abuse at timid drivers waiting to enter the roundabout!)

If you are approaching from the west ? head east along Australia Avenue and note the entry to the park is the last left turn before Homebush Bay Road. If you miss it use the roundabout to make a U turn and come back to the right turn bay.

    Parking
There?s plenty of parking available. There was no shortage of parking this morning but I imagine it can get rather busy towards the middle of the day. Aim to be there between 10:00am and 10:30am to guarantee a spot. I suggest we meet at the third carpark on the left after you enter the park. This is carpark P10c. This carpark is best for the BBQ and Kids play area and was not as full as the other carparks.

It should be no problem for us to all park together ? and with other park visitors coming and going, we can always shift a car or two around. There are 2P parking signs about but these apply to Mon-Fri only.

    Food and Drink
    You have two choices:
    1. Bring your own food and use the undercover BBQ?s supplied. There?s some seating available but you might want to bring foldup chairs / table or even a blanket etc.

    2. Or, there is WatervieW café within about 50mtrs of the carpark. There is an outdoor / undercover seating area there. Food looked great, fun atmosphere too. They serve breakfast and lunch. Main meal prices here range from $7 to $15 and kids meals for about $8 each. There are a large assortment of cold drinks, coffees, snacks and ice cream available.
