Lots of different takes on "no maintenance" batteries.

If you got yours from Mercedes I doubt it is a tru dry cell. Just watch out for leaks with the Merc ones, have you ever seen the battery tray on an ML series? Not cool.

    But 750cca is pretty sweet.

Hey mate, got your PM but will answer here for benefit of anyone else reading...

There are a couple of ways to do this... if you are sealing it off you can use a European style battery like Andy is talking about, but you would probably be better off spending a little extra on a true dry cell.

If you go for the Euro battery make sure you use the ventilation system correctly. It should be capped at one end with a breather at the other that vents to outside the cabin. Make sure it is encolsed and secured.

This is probably your best bang for buck option.

Alternatively go for something like a braille, but you will pay more $$$ for less CCA and RC.

    I know the feeling.

You want a multi stage "maintenance" charger. I can hook you up with a good C-Tek one for around $100 posted, or feel free to shop around I know Repco carry C-Tek and have no idea what the pricing is like.

The C-Tek charges at higher amps which is better for a modern lead calcium battery, and you can leave it connected for days/weeks/months/years without any risk of overcharging your battery.

Be aware that not many domestic chargers on the market will charge a 0v battery, which may be what you have experienced with your previous batteries. Most chargers (including the C-Tek) require a minimum voltage of around 4v (off the top of my head).

Hope that helps, and I think you are going about this the right way looking for a trickle charger setup.

So im guessing now still an optima with a ctek will do? Were you offering the XS800 ctek or which model?

    Cheers

Yeah mate xs 800 -like I said no idea what rrp is that is just what we sell them for.

Optima and C-Tek is probably a good combination just make sure the optima is lead/calcium

so in saying that, i should have got the 600cca low-maintenance battery over the 520 MF battery as it gives no advantage if i look after my battery(i do reg service as it is my daily car)
rats...i got sucked in by the sales man...

Im in a similar situation as tagrobert as mine is a daily driver too.
I will be adding over 1300rms worth of amps in the near future but have no intention of pumping the stereo with the engine off. I think i have a 600cca battery in at the moment but i want to downsize. Is it really necessary to have over 600cca for my condition? What small battery would you recommend?
I really need to downsize as my current battery is too tall for the brace so i cant get a roadworthy.

Dont downsize the battery specs, just get a shorter battery,

Might be worthwhile getting a capacitor for the stereo to help it cope.

    Will do, thanks mate.

I got a capacitor with the car. Im not 100% sure what benefit it has and how it affects a stereo yet, but thats for another thread.

    AndyMac Better than you

No your right...it's not a true dry cell. It's Gel, so in extreme heat conditions I've heard the gel can soften up to the point that I can leak if in a upside down position, but much better than a wet battery.

And yeah 750cca is freaking sweat.
