Canberra Tech Day

    KEZA Zed Fiend

Saturday 26th started with a bang, thunder & lightening with heavy rain.
S@#t, there goes the tech day, But wait! 6am & the sun is trying to break through. Quickly out of bed, the 3 S's, pack the car with tools, spares, replacement parts & head off to Canberra by 7am.
Dodging the wildlife along the way (bloody Roo's & Brumbies)heavy traffic nearing Adaminaby ( the country races are on)people coming from everywhere.
Find the same conditions at Cooma. Forgot, this weekend is the Cooma Motor Fest, Hot Rods, Classics,
Exotics, Sports Cars, Vintage & Motor Cycles, you name it, it was there. Give the Zed a quick tub (can't turn up to an event with a dirty car, its just not the done thing) then head on to Canberra.
Arrive just as IB is getting there, time 10:15, not bad considering.
Meet up with one of the best bunch of people, to tinker under the bonnets, boots & other various parts of some nice Zeds.
Help fit a couple of Strut Braces for Peter (OZ-300)& Chris (Chino). Lend a hand to Pat, while he's sitting on the ground mumbling about fitting some new shocks, boot trim spead all over the place .
Comes time to do a few checks on my Zed & John (Zcar91) has his Datscan all set up & ready to go.
I need to fit (2) new 02 sensors, ,not really, I already knew the ones in the car were shot!.
Need someone with "SMALL HANDS". John volunteers, (good on ya mate)as my hands wouldn't fit in there without surgery & that ain't goner happen, cos I need to drive home later.
John tells me it will only take about 40mins, (yeah right John):p So the Guru of Zeds starts, after I've removed the battery, "this won't take long" I hear him say, "I've started on the easy side".
An hour or two later, skin removed, John gets the first sensor in. "Beaut" I say, "thats the one that was playing up, according to the Datscan Data".
"we could just leave it at that John".
"Nar, we'll tackle the hard one now, don't let Chris disappear, we'll need him to start the thread on the new sensor".
Well I'll be, the bloody things gone in, in less than 20mins, "I thought you told me this was the hard side".
"Its got me stuffed" says John.
Now we'll check it again & adjust a few settings that were close to where they should be, but not quite.
Finished at last, 3 hours later.
"OK, take it for a run around the block & tell me if it feels any different" says John. Well, I did, it did, but the bloody Hicas light has come on & we weren't anywhere near it. Changed over Hicas sensor with Pete's & go for another run. No bloody light, must be the sensor playing up. Swap them back over & Now, mines working fine, Bloody Gremlins.
All in, there were about 17 Zeds that John & Ian & others worked on. John, God bless your little cotton socks, worked all day, non stop (except for when he was threatened, to go & have lunch, or else).
To the Guys, I say thanks for letting us use your home/garage/nature strip & supplying numerous tools & equipment.
Ian, Judy & Tigger, another top effort, catering just isn't the same without you.
Judy, Tigger's tops, but you need to get a Bib & Bonnet, to go with the Pram , I hope she's well soon.
To all the others, I say thankyou, for a top day. It's people like you lot, that make events, regardless, whether Tech Day's or Cruises & I hope to join you all again soon on another event.:thumbsup::thumbsup:

    Cheers
    Kerry

Great day, bad news for me, but things could be worse

I was there bright and early to set up, not really planning to do anything, but didn't want to miss out on the action either. Throughout the day had great fun watching everyone tuning and playing, and I tried to help by doing the occasional tool pass or run to the shops. Throughout the day I tried organising to get a go on the datascan but kept being too slow and eventually got in just before close. Was I in for a suprise! First thing we notice as I pulled the car into the garage was a horrible new tapping noise that I had never heard before, whats worse is that it was coming from under the timing belt cover  apparently she was just about flapping in the wind and did it sound horrible even reving as low as 2000. So on the positive side it hadn't come off yet, but clearly there is work to be done in the near future.

Anyway still a great day and for me probly the best thing was meeting some of the crew I hadn't met yet and their shiny sleek friends.

Big thanks to both Ian's, John, pete and judy for their hospitality, knowledge, work and help to come!

PS I saw some people running round with cameras so bring on the pics!

Just a little ad on, after yesterday's success of getting my car off safety boost I fixed my non working stock guage this morning, turns out two hoses were plugged in the wrong places, sound familiar John!!?
Anyway took her for a fang and the needle is hititng between six and seven which is about eight and a half psi  Better than the five it was running when the idiots who built it put it on the dyno.

It was a very good day indeed. That was the first tech day for me and the outcome was good. Good knowledgeable bunch of friendly zedders. Looking forward to any upcoming ones :)

Kerry, thanks heaps for your big help with the strut braces. Pete and Raymond did a great job locating a couple of minor vacum leaks which i will get right on to asap. Judy made good lunch too.

    take care all

    Good work all

I managed to change my rear shocks, and a lot of other people got some other little bits and pieces done here and there. Lots of Z's turned up and the BBQ was exceptional.

  16. Lil' Baz

    Lil' Baz I Love Skeptics!!!

An excellent day had by all...

Like everyone else, I had an excellent day and I learned a lot... But more importantly, we all got to network with a number of like minded peeps, aka: Zedders, like ourselves... I hope to organise another Tech-Day in the not too distant future, so that I can catch up once again with a great bunch of people...

And for confirmation, we peaked at "17" Zeds over the course of the day, with a max of 15 on-site at any given time... For Canberra I'd call that an awesome effort... Thanks to all...

As for my Zed, the news was all (well mostly;)) good... The problems I thought I had, it appears I don't... Like no compression in my no. 4 cylinder... All hail the "Conzult" and "DataScan"...:cool:

I would like, now, to offer a few special thank you's... To XFTony (Anthony) and Lancerboi (Pete) who so kindly offered their place to host the Tech-Day (after much begging and pleading on my part ;))...

To OZ-300 (Pete) and Kezza for all the assistance they gave to those who needed it... And thanks for the Happy Birthday, OZ-300!

To Zcar91 (John) for, as mentioned by Kezza in the first post, his tireless efforts to help us all and for providing the "Conzult" and "DataScan" (which REALLY helped my beautiful beast)... Way cool...

And finally to IB (Ian), his wife Judy and little Tigger... Ian, thanks for helping everyone on the day and for helping to organise this resounding success... Judy, once again, thankyou for feeding the hungry masses and for your smiles... And cute little Tigger, I hope you get well soon...

Here's to the next one!!! May it be better, though this one'll be hard to top!!!

    Baz..... :zlove::zlove::zlove:

    Another tech day.

I'll be there again for sure. I plan on replacing all my hoses to get rid of the vacuum leak and I know RAYMO has a few leaks aswell to take care of.
