Can anyone recommend an engine builder to rebuild or supply a built engine for a VG30 DE (non turbo). There are a couple of long motors out of the US but these days with the exchange rate and import taxes plus GST you have to about double the US dollar price.

Having purchased a motor via USA before I absolutely do not recommend this. They will not prioritise your job once they have your money and shipping is expensive. You will not get a motor any faster, cheaper, or better than what you could have had done in AUS.

With that out of the way where are you located? One of the members can probably steer you in the right direction.

Thanks Rob for the heads up on the US motor. I didn't really want to go that route and was just putting it out there. I'm not sure of the extent of the damage yet but as I have to pull the motor out I reckon at least a top end, head service (rework) and a good look at the bottom won't go astray. The engine won't be coming out again at least in my time. I shredded a timing belt so at minimum its going to be a couple of bent valves. All that aside, I'm in Griffith (near Wagga) in South West NSW. Obviously I'd prefer to keep the old engine to preserve matching Nos etc but sure would appreciate any advice you or other members could supply.

I'm originally from Griffith, moved away 6 years ago. I'd be looking up places in Melbourne or Sydney depending on your goals. My previous car I built with an RB25/30DET but that was 10 years ago. Griffith probably can't offer much, so look to places like Croydon Racing Developments or Racepace. These were the main specialists for Nissan / RB etc. Maybe give them a call to see if they can help with a VG motor, if they can't do the work maybe they can point you in the right direction... although I know Croydon have built VG's before...

Thanks Mint Z32, Ray Peruse is going to assess the damage probably after Christmas then we'll work out what to do. He uses a bloke in Wagga who does a lot of race engines. There's been quite a few off roaders around here and a little while back the VG30 was the engine of choice for off road buggies. Apart from that I've heard there might be a good engine builder in Scoursby (Vic). Hopefully damage is confined to the heads and not lower down.
