    Hi,
I'm just after a few opinions on brakes on a TT. I'm in the process of upgrading my brakes and need some advice. What is the way to go with the front brakes, bigger discs or standard size slotted discs with good pads? What sort of pads do you recomend as well. I only drive on the street but do some reasonably hard braking at times. Thanks very much.

    Cheers

If you only want good street performance....>>

Then get yourself a set of slotted disks in the factory size, fit a set of braided brake lines, a brake master brace (should be mandatory) and fit a decent set of pads. Personally I prefer the EBC range, but a number of guys like the Bendix Ultimates. It also pays to remove the stone sheilds from the front disks to aid in cooling. For a far more extensive list if brake mod opinions try doing a search on "brakes" and you will get a heap of answers.

    >>> The Chili BMC brace + Bendix Ultimates was best $200 spent on my Zed so far:zlove: Now I can STOP:thumbsup:

Ultimates are a bit dusty but I'm not complaining.:D

Will go for some slotted discs eventually too!

For an extra few hundred $ you could go 324mm rotors....

if you are wanting to upgrade then these are the best bang for bucks. I fitted these (dba slotted club 4000 series) as well as matching rotors (standard size) on the rear and s/s braided lines and braking is notably improved, especially pedal pressure needed for braking. I already had a brake m/cylinder brace fitted, but if you fitted that at the same time the improvement would be even more noticable. There was nothing wrong with my standard discs when I upgraded so the improvement was purely because of the upgrades not because my brakes were shot.

This was always on my list of upgrades for the zed and IMHO the zed should have had the 324mm rotors as standard.

Avoid the drilled rotors because there has been many instances of cracking and IMHO they are not worth the risk. The dba rotors have this cooling vane system called "kangaroo paw" which in theory looks to be advantageous as well.

I got my front brake kit from UAS here in Sydney, I don't know if they are available in Qld.

ps. disadvantages are:- will not fit under oem rims, & space saver spare will not fit. If I get a flat on the front I have to fit my rear wheel and put s/s on the rear. I think a Supra s/s will fit but I have a coupe so storage prohibits that option.

    Some points to remember...

Some braided lines are not legal; and can even when ADR stamped can still be illegal in some states.

Also, AFAIK removing the stone shields is also illegal - I have no idea why but apparently it also is in some states.

The single biggest improvement to brakes is to get decent pads and to make sure the brake fluid is good.
