In my time I've had the fortune of driving some quick cars (old school torana's, a couple of quick zeds and even did a NASCAR driving experience), but tonight was the best so far - a friends Audi R8 Spyder. Oh. My. Effing. God. The brakes were phenomenal but the acceleration was something else. Head snappingly unbelievable! Given we're all car enthusiasts, some of us must have driven some fantastic cars. Time to fess up.
I've done the usual SSV commodore thing, driven a few old z's like the 260 and 280, a 1200 datto ute and even an awesome Nissan urvan campervan... But I still think my z is the most awesome. Then again if I had money for something really awesome, I'd probably not be in a z
Lamborghini murcielago rented it with a mate both got speeding fines on the day but hell it was fuuuun took it up through kangaroo valley scared us both to death with acceleration and braking best adrenalin rush ever.
i haven't driven anything as exotic as the R8 (wicked) but i've been able to drive some pretty cool imports and stuff at work. 300ZXs TT and NA. multiple S14 and S15 Silvias some stock some mildly worked and one or two fully built ones. heaps of WRXs of all years and mods, funnily enough one of the fastest was a totally stock EVO5 version it had so much low down torque it was a bullet. a worked EVO 6 Lancer. Clubsport, SS, GTS, Maloo Commodores from VT to VE plus a GTS Monaro. BA-BF GT Falcons, F6 Tornados, Typhoon and XR6s. the ex cop versions are very quick. my bosses Porsche Boxster. Soarers V8 and 1JZ tuned and stock. lighly tuned JZA80 TT Supra. my mates XW GT Falcon with worked 351 and Toploader. another mates WB Holden one tonner with a fully built and blueprinted 308, turbo 400 and big stally with a mini spool diff. im sure there are more but, ahh the memories
To add on to my first comment. I've never really driven anything exotic or rare, just high powered Jap imports.
I have driven & owned 327 HK Monaro 72 GTR XU-1 torana summernats top 10 LC Torana (injected 350)' blown alky altered my old mans 6L displacment race boat with 750HP plus NASCAR donk had the privilage to drive Audi R8 (actually drove for about 20km) numerous Bently's, Porsche's, Ferrari's and other exotica when I had my tow truck but was mainly just short distance stuff on and off truck into carparks not a Ford lover but have driven a genuine XY GT for a couple of hunered KM's for a mate and rate it as one of the best drive experiences I have had. But I must say I have never YET driven a TT 300zx ...lol one day
As a young 18 y.o. in the 70's I used to do the books for a mate's panel beating business. No, I didn't take any exotics in there for a touch up out for a squirt, but one day another car club member turned up in his E-Type to see how his rally Cortina was coming along after a minor incident. Saw me checking the Jag out; threw me the keys, and said "be back in an hour". 'Twas something special back then, and still would be today - but without the modern awesomeness of the R8. A couple of years later I drove a racing Alfa GTV, caged, gutted, etc but still with rego from 1 workshop to the panel shop (via a long detour!) I had already been a passenger in it, and had been introduced to its handling - but that car showed me how properly thought out suspension and braking mods can improve a car's lap times significantly over a comparable pure street car. Late braking and higher cornering speeds were great!
I find that the Z32 is right up there. Unless you want to spend 50k+ on something like an NSX, or 370Z or something, you can't get much better. They still look great, the TTs are quick as hell, T-tops, etc.
Drove a lot of new Beemers when dad was looking, loved the E92 M3 with dual clutch. 135 was pretty good, but felt a bit cheap and nasty compared to the 335. Drove heaps of modified Jap stuff, GTR's, Evo's, S13's-15's, MR2's. Had a ride in Fleet's old race zed when that was running, it was mental! I'm keen to try a C63 and a Ferrari 360. They are both getting into the affordable category at the moment I'm a little afraid the 360 will be a let down.
I'd take the 360 just for the noise they make If you get the flappy paddles the changes are a bit slow. Manual gallardo was pretty fricken sweet tho. And fast even when not being stood on. And it has all of the grips. All of them. I'd take the rari, cheaper. And if I was to get a lambo, it'd have to be a murci If I was to spend on a supercar I'd still get something porsche tho
R8 would be very high on the list of things to drive for me, very jealous Col. Nothing exotic for me yet but have had a couple trips out to the ford proving grounds & taken the ford performance products for a good squirt. So focus RS, fpv gt, shelby gt500, etc
