    Hi all,
I thought that since Wykked and myself did not make the Coona Zed Fest this year, I would step up
(I hope I am not treading on anyone's toes) and put forth a suggestion for 2008. I know it is a way off, but as anyone who has tried to organise one of these will tell you, the sooner you put in a temp booking the better as Easter is a busy time for most car clubs.
The place of thought is Cowra in NSW, close by for those in Sydney or Canberra, but as usual us in Vic and Qld will have a drive in front of us. The chosen place for Accom at this point is Country Haven Motel in Cowra. It has a Golf Course right next door and if you follow this link http://www.cowratourism.com.au/ you can check out all of the other wonderful things Cowra has to offer (there is even an observatory, Darby Falls). So please have a look and tell me what you all think.
I cannot put up definite accom costs at this point, but they are currently between $80-95 per night, mind you we will qualify for a group booking rate, but the sooner we can book in the better.
The Motel is set on 3 acres and they have no problem with us having a car show there so check out the link and it will show all details on the accomodation.
So all, please check out the website if interested and post your thoughts.
PS: For Ian, Jude and Tigga, I have sussed out some accom in Cowra for approx $90 per night and Tigga is not a problem at all.
    Cheers

    Jen

the address above does not work for me :embarrassed::unsure: use the below clicky for one that does work for me

    cowra tourism

and I am faily certain the motel is not the "Country Garden" listed first in the above website [can't find a country haven there:unsure::wacko:] - but is the "Civic Motor inn" [ second to bottom - same page] that is part of the "country Haven" marketing group here - as the description of golf course adjacent seems applicable

    Civic Motor inn cowra

I will absolutely avoid all blonde jokes:thumbsup::sick::thumbsup: Cos the suggestes venue and location is Soooo good !!!!!
    the suggestion is Good
    the suggestion is Good
    the suggestion is Good
    the suggestion is Good

    ??

Maybe i havent bn following the forum properly.. but wat happened to 2007?? or has that already bn decided? and if so where is it... i have a suggestion... Ayers Rock, then EVERYONE has to drive heaps far hahaha NO SPEED LIMITS!! .... Kidding btw.

.. but seriously one of the main factors that turned me of coona is that it didnt seem to have anything to do there.. im guessing cowra will be much the same.. i'd rather go to a track day then a game of golf for example, i would be more inclined to go to a zfest if there were events such as a track day or hill climb or something apart from parking the cars arround and going ohhhh aint that special.. not that theres nothing wrong with that, but I personally tho would prefer to have more events.

Im kent brockman and that was my 2cents
Sorry if IM treading on any toes hehehe

    Jess.

i must admit i thought the same thing at first about Coona....

And i had only been on the forum for about a month or so and didn't really know anyone, but it was seriously one of the best weekends of my life. and there wasn't that much standing around at all. in fact i wish it went for longer! i suppose you make the weekend what you want it. you can go off and do your own thing, or go off in smaller groups, or just hang around. Seriously, the weekend was not long enough (that could have something to do with me being in bed all sunday)

    :LOL:2007 is the Nissan/Datsun Nationals:thumbsup:

The Zedfest is every 2nd year

I see your point man, it would be good to have track day and so forth or even a drift day;) :p.

The Coona weekend was absolutely Brilliant, but like HaylZ said, there just wasn't enough time. It didn't last long enough. Just when you thought you were getting to know someone, you had to up and wave goodbye.

You've got the choice of what you do and where you go. Next time i'll definitely be arranging my holidays around Zedfest so that i can spend an extra couple of days with someone somewhere:thumbsup:

    Cheers... Evil's Finest.

    Fate...

  7. Benny_C

    Benny_C About as subtle as...

ZBOOST, you may be better off going to the Nissan Nationals

    rather than the Zedfest.

Nationals, you can enter your car in events, etc..

ZFest, is a chance for members who have become friends, mentors, etc to finally meet and put faces to names - or to catch up again.

Not just that, but there are HUGE cruiZes with probably the biggest Zed convoy you've ever seen :zlove:

AND also a chance to have round table forum discussions, regarding the direction of this web site.

If you would just rather go somewhere to meet up and thrash your car around track, etc... then you'd be better off at the Nissan/Datsun Nationals (every OTHER year)

    Thats my AU$0.02

    No toes sore here...>>>

Track days are extremely expensive, if you are willing to put up the big $$$ needed for the deposit go for it.
As for not much to do, it is what you make it.
2007 is the NDSOC Nissan nationals to be held at Winton (with 2 track days). So most Zed enthusiasts go there...
But hey if anyone would like to arrange something else, please go for it. As I said, it was just an idea to get everyone thinking. ;)

I'm sold on Cowra ... ZBOOST look inside ...

I'm in!!! I really like Cowra, and usually make a point of stopping in at the Japanese Gardens on the way back from Bathurst. I stayed in Cowra on the way back from the 2003 Z Nationals in Brisbane.

Firstly, in response to ZBOOST's comment about 2007 - every alternate year a track oriented event known as the "Z" or "Nissan" Nationals is held at Easter, and is organised by the home state. I spectated at 2001 (Victoria), 2003 (Brisbane), and competed at 2005 (Goulburn). 2007 is Victoria's turn again, so Jess, given your liking for track day events, I expect to see you there! This is why we have so far targeted the years in between for our Z32 meets.

Secondly, you don't need to have track events to have a bloody good time. I haven't seen anyone post, or heard anyone say that they were disappointed by Coona - except that it was over! Haylez comments ring absolutely true. That said, if a 2007 forum event is held next Easter, sorry, I'll be at the Nats. It's worth noting though that there were more Z32's at Goulburn (I have pix of 48) than either Coona or Gilgandra, even if only 6 or 8 were actually competing.

Easter is most likely to become a yearly "Bathurst International Motor Festival" weekend. This year was the first running of the event, and, assuming its still going in 2008, Bathurst is only about 120km from Cowra (memory could be out). I would definitely be checking this out on one of the days.

30km or so north of Cowra is Canowindra, and April usually sees a hot air balloon festival happen. A mass of hot air balloons is quite a spectacle. Way too far away to confirm if the times match, or if it will even be on, but the reason I stopped in Cowra was to attend this festival, and go up-up-and-awayyyy. Couldn't get a balloon flight at a time that suited, as I had a Z-cruise-bbq to attend in Canberra. If it's on, I'll be on my way to Canowindra at 5am again. This time I'll try to park where a drunk/jealous tray truck owner can't deliberately reverse into the front of my Z again :angry::angry:.

Did I mention the Japanese Gardens? I could easily waste half a day there getting ideas and just checking out the plants and landscaping Japanese style.

I am so there if this ends up being the location for 2008. But Jen is right about early booking - if the balloon festival does happen and it is the Easter weekend, Cowra accomodation will be sold out for that alone. Ooooooooh I am planning it already!!!

Wow, and I thought the 2100KM trip to Coona was a long hike

Looks like Cowra is another 300KM's for QLDers. I'm in no matter where it is held but I think some of the other surrounding areas like Parkes, Forbes, Dubbo etc should be investigated with the pro's and con's so the association can vote on the place to host the event.

Highlight of Coona was the awesome cruise, that must happen again:thumbsup:

I so do apologise for the link and...>>>

or website address just google Cowra and the tourist info will come up and as for the accom it is the Civic Motor Inn.

As I mentioned if anyone else would like to look in to other suggestions and organise, go for it.... :D

A cruise would definately be a part of it, always is..

How about the BLUE MOUNTAINS! Not far for Sydney guys but

heaps to do and see, places to stay, relatively Central for all others, and some bloody fantastic roads (used in East Coast Targa)! Yes I live there ATM but wont by 2008, as maybe going North to join Carl (90TTZ) and dodge cyclones:LOL:.

    How about Tassy?

We could all jump on the Spirit of Tasmania!!!

QLDers get on at Brisbane, NSWers and ACTers get on at Sydney, VICians get on at Melbourne and we all ship our cars to Tassy! I had a quick look and it is about $180 per person return and around $60 per car (that's prices from Sydney). I don't know if you guys think that's expensive, but we'd end up paying that in petrol driving somewhere i suppose.

    Just a thought...

    OK i c!

    Nationals = Events.
    Z Fest = Social Gathering.
    Excuse my ignorance.

Sounds Great, i didnt realise thats how it all went down, in light of that Cowra sounds fine although i think Mat may have a good idea there aswell! Blue mountains is a lovely area ( mountain driving, awsome roads, scenic, 3 sisters, doesn't have a beach .. ) but i think i'll put my vote in there.

P.s... could we atleast have a skid pan at Zfest :p

I spent years travelling overseas when I was working, but I have never

seen Tasmania! :embarrassed: I would love to go there and a Zed Fest is the perfect excuse. Filling the Spirit of Tasmania with Zeds would be a sight to behold.

Even though they are resourceful folk, I think Tasmania may be a "bridge too far" for the Queenslanders, so if the numbers worked out maybe they could organise a concurrent Zed Fest somewhere up there... maybe at a slightly different time so the New South Welshmen could go to both!!

Having said all of that, Cowra is a great suggestion too. We have a 200 acre farm on the Wyangala Dam not far away East of Cowra that I escape too when I can and scare a few fish. It is great country out there. Unfortunately no Zed has ever or will ever be able to get down the Grabine Road otherwise we could have had the mother of all camp outs.

    Cheers:zlove:
