Delete your PTU, tidy up your wiring and boost your spark by a massive 50% with a set of brand new Audi R8 ignition coils.

Factory ignition coils pump out a very respectable 21kv, but the R8 coils put out a whopping 30kv at 3ms dwell. These run on a 3ms dwell time, which does NOT require modification or tuning of your ECU to use, however anyone with a chipped or aftermarket ECU should be able to squeeze even more out of them by adjusting the dwell time to suit their needs.

R8 coils can be removed to give access to the spark plugs with the plenum still on if you remove the old coil mounts, and are held in place by their connection to the spark plug, as well as seating on the spark plug tubes. If you do not wish to remove the old mounts you will access the coils via a plenum pull, however this mod will reduce the time a plenum pull takes significantly. They do NOT require any cutting, grinding or modification of any sort to valve covers to be fitted either, unlike LS2 coils.

These coils will come with connectors to suit, and a basic level of cutting and soldering is required to install these. Instructions will be provided digitally.

Due to a huge amount of interest on social media im making this kit forum official. In six months time I will be stocking these on my website here for $499 plus post, but if you jump on board now the price is $350 including post. Deadline to get on board is April 30th, and if more than 5 people pay before then I will order their lot first, then the second five and so on so forth.

I believe LS2 coils are rated a bit higher but depending on the type you may need to cut your cam covers to make them fit.

The common one is the LS2 D585 Coils which are similar to the R8 coils but you do need to trim the cam covers.

Or you can go this style...

LS2 coilpacks are rated at 40Kv.

Disregard the fact this is a Buy/Sell FB thread. There's tons of data/info on the Audi R8 and the GM LS2 coilpack conversions.

John, I appreciate that most of your links are tech based and are there for peoples information, but I really dont appreciate you posting links to other websites and places to buy them. It really just looks like a thinly veiled attempt to tell people not to buy through me. I expected more from you mate.

To clarify here, the coils you have placed a link to are NON-GENUINE ignition coil. I work in a parts store on a daily basis and I can say I would be far more confident using a genuine OEM coil over aftermarket ones, as aftermarket ones fail FAR more often. My sets also come with connectors and pigtails included in the price, so the price I am selling for is an extremely fair price.

Sorry Jordan. I cut and paste all of the links I had in my Audi R8 coilpack folder not really paying close attention to specifics.

gmbrezzo - That facebook ad wasn't intended as a 3rd party sale. Those coilpacks were sold many months ago. But rather it's a near 200 posts thread that is 90% tech related about the R8 coilpack. Is it possible to replace it as it has key info regarding install, plenum modifications required, plastic spark plug tube requirements, clearance needs/requirements for the R8 coilpack, etc etc.

I haven't yet worked out exactly why a plenum pull is needed?

I am tentatively interested. Any data or reviews out there on the result or seat of pants difference?

Can you provide any evidence that going from a 21kv to. 30kv generic coil will provide any upgrade at all tho ? The ls2 truck coils have there own igniters with heat sinks . These Audi ones don't appear to have a heatsink at all .

Some good gains or testing is needed to prove that it's not just a waste of coin

there wont be any measureable gains for most people.well not seat of the pants performance increase anyway . in high boost applications they may help reduce spark blow out , people running .8 gaps or less can run a touch wider gaps which may slightly improve idle quality and reduce emissions.

but for people with aging, possible failing coil packs you are eliminating a current or future problem. a set of these will probably last 10 years or so at a guess

Just curious as to how they weigh up compared to splitfires? Anyone know? Don't mean to start anything. Genuinely interested in a set but just want to know.

To be honest I just like the idea of not having a PTU and being able to source these as a significantly cheaper replacement part in the future.

And if they provide a bit more kick then that's just gravy.
