    F@#king Rain. Had some rain this week and the Z's been playing up. Tonight was the last straw. It was only a brief shower. Was going down the freeway and the piece of crap starting caughing an spluttering. This happens every time it rains, it dosn't take much at all. The road wasn't even wet enough to get spray off the tyres. Fair dinkum it was more like a heavy mist. Had the car for more than 3 years now and this crap starts happening. About 4-5 months ago the car got a big splash in a big down fall. The consiquince was the car would not rev past a few thousand rpm. Classic Airflow meter problem. It dried out and the next day it was OK. Now I am thinking perhaps I did some damage to the airflow meter so now I am having these problems.Does anyone have a spare airflow meter I can borrow to see if it is my problem. I'll need to hang on to it until it rains again to test out my theory.I'll need to get it hooked up to consult to see if there is any strangeness as well. Going to go over the connectors this week end but I doubt this is the problem. Also gotta fix a boost leak too. Geez when it rains it pours!!Cheers,Danny

    Dan, water is hitting the hot wire element

    I had this happen after I re-located the AFM's to under each headlight.
    Then I had to drive home in pouring rain, all the way from Apollo Bay. Everytime I accelerated the engine would loose all power momentarily, then pick up again. Like a stutter. It was very harsh on the whole driveline.
    It wasn't until I got to Geelong, that I pulled into Maccas, and found a cardboard tray in the bin :s 8-} 8-}
    I put it behind the intercooler vents on the front bar, to stop water from coming in and going onto the pod filters. The filters were drenched, and when I would accelerate, water would be sucked through the AFM.
    Once the cardboard was in place, I had no more problems on the rest of the journey.
    I later replaced the cardboard with black plastic pieces, riveted in place.In your case, I would try to block direct airflow onto the air filter(s) / AFM.
    If the car runs fine during dry weather, and stutters when its raining, then your AFM is fine.
    Just need to keep water off itCheers.....

    I relocated mine as well....

    personally I reckon behind the headlights is such a cool little spot, especially if you have a front mount. Not sure if mine gets very wet when driving, I dont have an air flow meter to worry about, plus without it my filters sit up a lot higher from the road anyway. I figure if I am getting little bits of water through the filter then it will just get rid of any carbon deposits :)

    Dan.....

    this weekend there will be a few zed people at my my house to help with my heatercore. So come on down and maybe you could try one of their airflow meters to test your theory. Hell, my car certainly wont be moving for the weekend so you can try that if you want.Cheers
