Anyone disassembled a tein shock absorber? As in completely, not just the coil.

As above, has anyone completely disassembled a tein or other branded shock absorber? I have a tein I want to strip down, but it still has some nitrogen pressurising the canister. For the people in the know, removing the retaining cap and venting the nitrogen, what am I expecting to happen? I'm presuming a sudden decompression and some oil spray but it shouldn't be anything too crazy?

Reading into how to appropriately dispose of shocks, they suggest drilling a 5mm hole in the side of the tube, so with that in mind, I'm not expecting anything super crazy to happen? Should be safe to just unscrew the cap?

Any info would we greatly welcomed.

    Cheers.

I thought you had to have Tein specific tools... isn't that how a lot of name brand shocks prevent others getting into them?

punch and a hammer fixes all. ;)

Nah, there are 4 holes in the top that a "tool" is meant to be inserted into (looks like a circlip plier) and you simple rotate the retaining nut off.

    simples.

Ive decided that no one can give me a straight answer about it all, so i plan to just drill a hole in the side and see what happens.

They're tein HRs from the rear of a stag. I plan to chop them down and use cartridges for ease of replacement. ....cough......custom built ;)....... cough cough,

tassuperkart Its a lie I tell you!

    Pressure is not that high.
If you unscrew the top gland, once the o-ring come out of the housing the gas should just hiss out past the thread without too much issue.
Depends on the design of the gland nut and the top of the tube but its pretty simple.
Keep your face way off to one side just in case the o-ring is the last thing to release and it pops up when the last threraqd releases.
