Yesterday, I had 4 new tyres put on the zed, when I drove it out, the Anti-lock light stayed on....

Thanks to Fate for giving a bit of help, and thankyou K-zed.... I drove back to the tyre place to find out - in the mean time, the light did go out and stayed out for the trip back to the coast again.

This afternoon I picked up lil turt from school, got in to drive home and .... yeahhh now the Anti-lock light is back on again....

Could anyone shed a bit of light on this issues for me - yes i had a read in the tech section but it didn't really answer my problem....

Check your brake fluid level first
There are 3 points of supply to check. Diagnostic section says that if light stays illuminated, check fluid then check the ABS Control Unit Supply fuse. Contradicting, as ABS section of manual says its a 10A fuse, EL section also says its a 10A fuse, but fuse layout has it as a 15A fuse. Fuse is located in drivers side kick panel, location no.17 (same fuse for Power Steering/Hicas).
Also a fusible link in engine bay rear drivers side, and second fuse in larger relay panel front passenger side.

Also check your alternator. Mine just died. The ABS light was on as soon as mine carked it. Just a small chance of this, but still...

ABS Sensor and ABS ECU test

    Hey ...

Had to fix my NA ABS ECU fault ..

Some info for ya. Not hard .... easy to do the tests to find out what the problem is. Hardest part is removing the interior pieces to get to the ABS ECU !

Dont listen to me cause Im an idiot, but about a month ago JT240Z has this to say about it:

"Run the antilock ecu codes. It'll tell you what sensor is screwed up. Here's how to do it:

The Anti-Lock warning light is similar to the check engine light. It activates at speeds over 8mph. It indicates that the control unit is recieving an error code. To locate the problem, find the ABS control unit (behind passenger seat, under the plastic cover). You should be able to see an LED on the unit. I found it hard to see, but trust me the LED is there. You may have to unbolt the computer to get a better angle on it.

Drive the car for at least one minute at above 19mph (30kmh)to trigger the self diagnosis mode. The ANTI-LOCK light should come on (if theres a fault) and the LED will flash the code for the problem. Keep the car running. The codes are:

1 left front actuator solenoid circuit
2 right front actuator solenoid circuit
3 or 4 rear actuator solenoid circuit
5 left front rotor sensor circuit
6 right front rotor sensor circuit
7 right rear rotor sensor circuit
8 left rear rotor sensor circuit
9 actuator motor, motor relay circuit
    10 actuator solenoid valve relay
    16 control unit

Codes flash like ECU diagnostics, 1-2 sec flashes with 1-2 sec intervals between them. After up to 10 seconds w/out flashing, codes will flash again. Drive the car for more than 1 minute at over 19mph (30kmh) to get out of the diag mode. If you fixed the problem code and cycle the ignition, the ANTI-LOCK light should not come on next time you get the Z over 19 mph for 1 minute or longer. If it comes on again, then check the code again. The computer will only display one code at a time. If you had multiple problems, then you'll get the next code after you fix the first."

I may have more info ... but that should be enough to test if it's a wheel abs sensor or the ABS ECU. HAd a tech 'How to test the abs actuators' with a multi-meter - if you need it let me know and I'll track it down for you.

My fault was the ABS ECU - got a second hand one for $60 and the fault went away.

    Good luck.

    Cheers, Rob

Would this issue be because i had new tyres put on?
The light was on yesterday afternoon, was on this morning going to school, but it was not on leaving the school an hour later.....

Is it dangerous to drive when this light is on..... when its on it stays on - no flickering no indecisiveness etc, its either on or off....

Hey Ains, have you quickly checked your break fluid levels yet? This warning light issue can be exact representation of simply low brake fluid. just have a quick look at the resovoir to see it's full of fluid and report back so we can possibly rule that issue out - then we can dig deeper for you. :)

Im betting its a bad connection on 1 of the abs sensors. mine does the same thing as soon as a rattle gun goes near .....

in that case, i completely agree with Trev. the rattle gun vibration would have upset one of the sensors/connectors. Might have to jack it up while it's running and the warning light is on and have a fiddle with the sensors to try and induce it to flicker on/off to find the culprit.

Is that going to be easy to do on my own?? lol

It was on when i left the coast today for a short trip, eventually it went out.....
I dont think i like the new tyres, can i get back the old ones ... lol

Hey Red Turtle, Did you ever end up fixing this problem ?

The exact same thing is happening on my Z. Since changing my wheels the Anti Lock light has decided to turn on. Sometimes it turns off for a day or two but recently its been on.

Benny C mentions the sensors/connectors may need fiddling with. could someone possible show me where they are, and how exactly this is done ?

I offer my many thanks !!!
