I thought a thread of what I'm up to may be of interest to my peers. I've weakened to my addiction and have been busy celebrating the end of my spending lockdown with a big spend-up. The story so far. I got my hands on a '91 N/A 2+0 as a "home" for my built motor. Chris, ezzupturbo ripped the motor and gearbox out and I got stuck into cleaning up the engine bay. By gargoyle123 at 2011-07-27 By gargoyle123 at 2011-07-27 Ready to throw this baby in soon. By gargoyle123 at 2011-07-17 Build thread. http://www.aus300zx.com/forum/showthread.php?t=296208&page=3 Now the heads have not been done, just reconditioned, so I plan on porting and polishing them and throw them on zed one and the heads off that will be the ones I'll use to up-grade. It just so happens I have these ready. JWT 400+ cams. I'm getting 2 mm oversized valves and of course heavy duty springs. By gargoyle123 at 2011-07-27 I have to get that power to the ground and still stay intact so this will help along with my manual conversion kit. By gargoyle123 at 2011-07-27 And of course I have to stop so these should do the job with 360mm disc's. By gargoyle123 at 2011-07-27 These should come in handy. By gargoyle123 at 2011-07-27 A pile of bits. By gargoyle123 at 2011-07-27 And my pride and joys. By gargoyle123 at 2011-07-27 By gargoyle123 at 2011-07-27 By gargoyle123 at 2011-07-27 By gargoyle123 at 2011-07-27 I still have to get an ECU up-grade, one piece tail shaft and the gt2871rs's and monster injectors. I have a set AMS 3"manifolds and a 3" HKS exhaust system on the way too. I think I've covered the lot for now, there's a big storm heading my way and I'm getting off line.
Yeah, the epitomy of a struggling artist. It's gonna be fully sick mate! I'll be watching this thread, Gargoyle is an enthralling story teller.
QUOTE: " ...have been busy celebrating the end of my spending lockdown .... " really ... ???? i do not think anyone noticed a spending lockdown ... lol. great plans and progress, Gargles .. all looks tops.
For a start folks once you have and beat cancer, the job's on. No inheritance for my lot! Spent 40 years sloggin' my guts out, now it's me time. I think it all stems from marrying at 18 and having three kids in a hell of a hurry. The Xu1 was out, shit boxes in. Mind you I have 13 grand children and I'm still young enough to enjoy them. Before the zed addiction I was thinking of an M5 or the like but then thought what a cheaper option and a far better finished "product" a classic would make. Or should I say "productS"? The 2nd one snuck up on me and before I knew it, I had project two on the hop. My problem really is you guys, you keep selling real good stuff at fire sale prices. Did I mention I picked up those gt600's and 550cc nismo injectors and am going to throw them into zed one to give her that little bit extra? As for the valves, I'll let my shopping finger find them for me. It's very well trained. Back to the spending lockdown and into the baked beans. This is not a good place to be actually. This is when I go "future shopping" and get another wanna list going. One thing I can assure yous is that we're going to do this rite. I've got a bit of an idea and an excellent team behind me. I have to break 10 seconds or it's back to the drawing board. And beans.
2mm bigger valves ??? They may not fit !! 1mm bigger valves (exhaust/intake) are almost touching based on a pic I cant find ATM
I'll have to get the heads machined so they fit as 1mm O/S just fits. I've been snooping about and they don't look off the shelf so I may have to get them specially made up. A good project for me. I also have to get adjustable cam gears along with a 300 degree fuel rail and 840cc injectors and all those other bits. I'll leave the NOS till last if I need it that is. Feel free to suggest anything I may have forgotten.
LMAO at the parachute, I was seriously thinking I may need one the way this addiction is going. I do have a roll cage that I forgot to mention. Biga32 and I are getting a set of aircraft grade full harness's as well. The shopping finger is on the hunt for a set of quality race seats too. It's like going to a chinese takeaway, there's so many to choose from. I'm only looking at the race approved stuff though. You sure can spend a lot on race gear. And I sure as hell don't want to look like a hairdresser for that sort of money either. Love the fairy boots one can get. Hey tekie, I read somewhere you had 2mm oversized valves. Ooops, my bad. You said they were on your radar, still is I guess.
Ages ago when I was going to redo the heads on the road car I was going to buy Ferrera 1mm over cause they where the biggest that will fit, BUT after I looked at the payback in power, the cams where better in terms of bang for the buck. Those valves are horendously expensive. Plus if you are going to do that you really have to buy Titanium retainers as well. I actually ended up buying 0.5 over size in Supertech valves but then sold them off and stayed stock. Why dont you just buy the JWT R5 cams that where in the for sale section 2 weeks ago. They could be quite cheap. The extra lift will be way cheaper for extra power than a head rebuild seeing you have to buy guides, valves, seals then pay for machining, etc.
I already have the JWT 400+ cams and was thinking of matching them up with this lot. http://www.conceptzperformance.com/cart/description.php?II=1441&Car_Type=300&UID=20101228175551 I'm starting to hear it's not worth the effort, or is it? I have my tail shaft worked out by the looks of it. A one piece chrome molly. Onto researching ecu's. Here comes the brain strain.
Opinions vary, BUT mine is, its a waste of money. You have got all the JWT springs etc havent you? You dont use the Ferrera springs on the JWT cams anyway. I would buy Robs Power FC before ANY aftermarket ECU. At least it will be close to road spec with that in the car and starting and drivability issues will be zero. Its really hard to get ANY of the aftermarket ECU's to start properly like the Power FC will.
