Hey all. Ive been looking at some advanced driving courses because I figure we can always learn something new. I was wondering if anyone has taken these courses and can recommend a company or level that provides a reasonable course.

I checked out Murcotts who seem to offer a few courses but I dont want to be babied either. As it is I know my limits and can control my car. I can do controlled smooth launches, donuts, and relatively high speed controlled cornering and handle higher speed S bends and hairpins (although I am not taking these at the cars fullest capability and i know im not braking as well as i could, handling the weight distribution etc)

I say this becasue I just want you to know my level of skill as it is, so you can make some reccomendations. I also dont have the cash to start with their level one course and go up, but that said, im looking at probably doing 2 courses.

    Any help is appreciated

    Cheers

Ive done the Murcott one a few years ago.

I did the Level 1 advanced driving course, mainly so I qualified to do the Murcott Race car course. It was held at Sandown and Is a great course, very well run. Unfortunately the race car course is only done in VIC though, the Advanced driving course is available in all states.

Unfortunately with most of these courses...

...you have to start at the basics. Thus to prove to yourself you know what you're doing and to prove to the instructors you know what you're doing. It can be frustrating having to start at the basics and do slow drives through cones etc - but its a basis - unless you're Petter Solberg, Michael Schumacher or the likes, I can guarantee in the beginner course you will learn something.

Once you've got the foundation and bit of paper that says you can drive slow and safely you can move up into the more advanced courses - this is where the real fun starts. Remember alot of the basics in the advanced courses is assumed to be known, so if you skip the basic course, you may be causing a snowball effect in a lack of knowledge of the basics.

In all seriousness, start at the basics; you'll be surprised how much you can learn and you don't know about the basics of driving, then move into the more advanced courses.

    * Note this is a general statement and I am not having a go at anyones ability (or lack there) of driving skill. I am talking from experience, both as a participant and an instructor!
