I am trying to source a solution for us on these parts.

Who, who has bought the GT28R's is up for a pair of dumps?

I am borrowing an SR20 5 bolt dump on Saturday.

They are bit shorter than the Dupree ones that are $700. OMG they are expensive.

The SR20 pipes are divorced style with the waste gate and exhaust seperate so they should work well.

I recon the SR20 ones will fit with a bit of a cut and shut of our exhaust pipe's by the exhaust place to align with the dumps.

They are about $125 each which is good for me.

I will try to get a deal on 10 of them. (5 sets of turbos where sold)

i will be interested in a set too thanks.

Wouldnt mind seeing the final product before i completely commit. Just a photo of what ur exhaust shop ends up making up.

    Cheers

I forgot to mention, I am working on a fix

so we can use the factory actuators as well. They should be able to withstand 26 PSI if this works ok.

I don't want to buy HKS actuators for $300 if i dont have to.

The stock ones are only good up to about 18 PSI.

On TTnet, everyone seems to upgrade them. Well I dont want to spend the money. (tightarse)

Are they going to bolt straight on without having to get any extra plates etc fabricated?

You mean the actuator mod ?

If I have my way, we will be able use everything standard as it comes. The actuators will have a extra spring on the outside of them (sliding down over the existing shaft) to hold the waste gate shut longer.

Now I have to test this yet to make sure it works.

But I recon it should. If it saves $300 odd dollars, I will do it.

I am picking up my turbos tomorrow so I can start to make sure all this fits together OK.

The SR20 Dumps will probably be OK on one side but I may have to get a mirror image of it made for the other side. I am working on this.

I don't want to spend any more money than I have to. I think we are mostly in the same boat, so I am happy to share the knowledge.

    Mike basically

If I can get the SR20 dump pipes to work. Its a matter of getting one of the exhaust shops to cut and weld a bit extra and maybe a flange on the existing exhaust pipes so they mate up with the dumps.

I recon about $100 would cover this. It isnt a big job at all.

If you can make the SR20 pipes work ....

I can supply Tune Agent 3" SR20 SS dump pipes for $110 each, if ordered in sets of two.

Re: If you can make the SR20 pipes work ....

That would be good, I need one to have look if the tune agent ones will fit.

I have one of Eggs and that looks OK. But I havent been able to take it further as I have been busy this last week.

Do you have a picture of yours that you can post here?

aren't there clearance problems with 3" dumps? Isn't 2.5" optimal anyway?

The Egg dumps I have are 2 1/2 inch ID

There doesnt seem to be a problem. They are a bit longer than the stock dumps. But they dont hit the starter motor.

Its bloody hard to exactly figure out if they will work. But it looks like they will.

The passenger side one seems OK. Plenty of room.

I am not too worried about the exhaust down/pipe to the cats. It can be easily welded/joined/changed by the exhaust shop to fit the dumps, providing the dumps dont foul anything. Its cheap to do this.

That is what I am checking ATM.

I will be able to confirm all this, later in the week sometime.

    Egg ....

    Think...

The newer ones I have are a little shorter.
And I don't believe the tune agent 3" SR20DET dumps are three inch... listed as 3" but they're 2 1/2 or less.
Better option is the Mike Dupree clones, converting these to five bolt pattern is a similar job as the sr20 dumps, but at least these will fit properly with front pipes etc..

I had the turbos and the dumps boted up onto my spare block the other day

The drivers side SR20 dump does fit quite well. Unfortunately the passenger side one aint too good.

The outlet is pointing the wrong way. So wrong, the stock dump couldnt be used without mods.

Egg, any chance you can do a bit of work on this for us? I dont think anyone would begrudge buying them from you at all if you can sort this issue out for us.

One standard SR20 dump, and one modded or specially made with the outlet rotated.

At least the dumps can be fitted later when the engine is back in the car.

2 1/2 inch outlets are just fine IMHO. Thats what i want anyway.

    Egg ....

    Easiest option.

Would be to get some on those Mike Dupree clones which cost about the same as a pair of the sr20det dumps.
Then just cut the flange off and replace with 5 bolt flange.
Laser cur flanges are less then $10 each and if one of you in the group buy has welding skills it's pretty straight forward.
Or, fill all the existing holes with slurry and redrill.

Egg, where have you seen Dupree clone pipes for Z32 ??

Do you mean 4 bolt ones ?? and mod for 5 bolt ?

I actually had a close look at the dupree 4 bolt but the outlet is way bigger on the 5 bolt. You would be squashing the turbo outlet down in size whcih wouldnt be good I think.

  19. Egg

    Egg ....

    These.

Chop the existing flange off and weld on 5 bolt flange, too easy. :)
