just throwing this out there, can you fit a 350z auto onto a 300zx tt auto.....yes its a auto for auto but as my left knee is shot the clutch thing is a no go.(yes 6 speed would be better but tiptronic is as close as im getting)
As i might have an opportunity to get hands on one.
So would like to of any issues...there's got to be something right ....:confused::confused:

not sure how youd get that working, but there is the shift at will kits around if you want to go manualised-auto

its just food for thought more than anything......as mine is a bit noisy when its cold, going to service it this weekend as it has to much oil in it any way.
also how much would you pay for one ???

Im sure this has already been done...have a search...can remember reading that it wasnt as strong as the 300zx gearbox & that the gear change ratios areng as good or something like that...basically big waste of money when you can just upgrade to manual or get a SAW kit for a lot less

Sounds like a good Idea at the Breakfast table, whilst pondering your day over a coffee. But none the less a BIG job to undertake with no gain. You will need to swap out looms and ECU's.....A burger with the lot basically! Plus also it has a totally different bell-housing that wont just bolt up. Plus different gear ratios.

You money and time is better spent on a SAW Kit and possibly a Reco if need. I wouldn't personally run a SAW Kit on a 20Yo Auto that hasn't been rebuilt, I cant see it lasting too long. In saying that though, I do believe some members run a SAW Kit on an Un-Rebuilt Auto.

well looks like a SAW kit it is then....thats as close to a manual i can get then ill take it......i do like the idea of paddle shift anyway.
yes it might cost a lot for no gain but manual conversion is out of the question and i want more control over the box when it changes, that why i was looking at the tiptronic as i know a 350z that was written off during the week

Have you tried a manualized auto before? They're so awful. I've driven a couple of them including my brother's Focus. There's such a delay between you pulling the stick and the actual change, it's just not worth it. You end up switching back to auto and letting it go.

I just think they're worth a test first, because in my opinion they're worse than an actual auto :p

I recently did a manual conversion on my Z because I thought it was what I wanted...turns out I hated it... It was rough going and a pain in the ass. So i converted it back  But I love it now, mainly due to not having that Manual conversion in the back if my head. Waste of money, but no regrets as now I know what I want. The funny thing is, the clutch and flywheel is no lighter than the Torque converter, the Manual Box is no lighter than the Auto (going by feel) and the gear ratios are basically the same if you compare using the 1, 2 and D w/over drive on to the manual... No gain IMO by going manual, but being able to be in the gear you want, when you want. This is where the SAW kit comes into play.

I was going to do the SAW kit and had my Auto Reco'd with a separate oil cooler for the job. I will get one soonish, but I need to regain my money. Plus also I have other things in life I want to spend on ;) using the gear holds will suffice for now.

Your right in some ways, but with the SAW kit you can adjust line pressures to your liking... The more line pressure the faster the shifts, but will in turn give a jerky ride and more heat. The best part about the SAW kit is you can switch from Auto to Manual mode depending in what your doing. The Jerkyness of running more pressure doesn't worry you if your gunning it. But if your just cruising in traffic you can set it to Auto.

I believe the SAW kit from here>> http://ess-racing.com/ is around $1500 (Probably + shipping). It is my understanding that one requires a good condition transmission and improved cooling. There is at least 1 member here who has done this I can not remember who though. I dont believe there are many alternatives for genuine SAW kits for the Z although I am happy to be wrong - I would have thought the patrol guys would have looked into this before.

    Adz_79 I do it in a Zed

I have a SAW installed on a standard box. I run a tranny cooler as well as a thermo fan on the cooler set to kick in when the tranny gets to 95. This is controlled by the SAW computer. Only time ive seen the temps up in this area is through the hills when constantly changing up and down. Had the box serviced 2 weeks ago (SAW has been in for 10,000km) and auto shop reports no problems.

    Well worth the price.

The Patrol guys wire in a risistor I believe in one of the wires to change what the ACU sets as line pressure... This is a very crude way to do it, and will always shift hard!

I know a certain QLD member was working on converting the Z32 auto to the R34 GTT tiptronic auto setup. Not sure how far he got with it.

why dont you just put a manual valve body into the zed box. they are sweet, and you will get the performance benefit too

Any ideas who here supplies/does this?

Saw is going to be your best option except ess are not making kits any more at all so you will have to hunt for a second hand one.
The 350 box idea sounds cool those boxes are quiet fat though, there would have to be a fair bit modified but it could work swap modify/be housing for starter ect. The auto controller will be fine e as you can get standalone controllers for those boxes. All the linkages under the car will need to be modified as the 350 box has them on the passenger side and the 300 has them on the drivers side. It would cost a couple grand to get it set up but would be a nice e drive.

This idea has POTential, but someone should investigate a variable resistor ;)

Paul from keas transmission is who you want to speak to about a manual valve body.
