So just thought i will jump on hear, for any feedback or questions from me "my First Z" Planing to just build it up and see where it takes me, Not looking to run it down the strip at all. For starters, Z32 1991 tt - taga top with auto box. I will be removing the working engine and transplanting the Rb25 into it. Along with the 5 speed recondition manual box (r33). Will be running Full Fuel system, Gt3582r top mount, 3 1/2" exhaust, PFC D-j The interior and engine bay will be striped out and re painted. Pics to come.
in perth as well......look forward to seeing it, and more than willing to get a few of the wa boys to come help if needed...... whos doing the work, yourself, a workshop? whats the plans regarding the extra length of the rb25 over the vg30 currently in the bay?
Hi guys, Yeah I'm new to the forums. I will be doing the work my self, mostly. Still tossing up, if i strip the whole Bottom end and replace with some shiny stuff. As for the Mounting. Some Fab shop in the states that makes engine mounts and plans for removal and structural reinforcement of the front cross member. Its around 650 Delivered pretty costly. Also since the sum is metal i will be able to cut into it and fab up a extended sump. http://mckinneymotorsports.com/prod_300zx+RB+SWAP - anyone had any dealings in electric water pump's should i go stock position or use a blocking plate and have it installed near the rad.
the way they modify the crossmember looks pretty sketch, it ends up thinner than the sway bar judging by the picture
You are correct might be better off transplanting a r33 one into the 300. Will take little longer but you still have the steering rack for some support.
don't need to modify the cross member if you use an rb30 sump (from a nissan patrol ), rear mounted too i think. also no need for custom mounts, rb30 VL turbo drivers side mounts, fit with zed kframe. unsure on passengers.
I just wondering why would you do all that ? I would maybe understand if you would be doing RB26 swap making it in to AWD or RB30 with RB26 heads kind of setup. But I don't get the idea of all that trouble to swap "working engine" with less powerful one... Is your Z N/A or TT?
So ofter much debate i might purchased this no modifications to the car needed. OR has anyone had there sump modified?
id say buying a prefabbed sump (as above) would be the way to go. another member here did a vh45 conversion in his zed and had no end of problems trying the weld the öil impregnated" sump. the welds just wouldnt take and were porous and weapy. do you require any firewall mods to be made to fit the engine? that woulb be a big putoff if i was considering the conversion.
The engine fits into the car with out firewall issues. Tho i will need to run a twin radiator fan set up recessed into the front. One of the pro's is that the 300 has a huge front end. Does anyone know how to post pictures not just thumnails.
You're right, the space in front of the upper rad support is massive on a Z compared to Silvias or Skylines. Lots of room for activities.
