300ZX Magnetic sump/gearbox/differential Drain plug GB.......

I was asked recently about some of the 300ZX Magnetic Drain plugs, so I made enquiries with the supplier who put together a deal offering us 12.5% off any individual plug purchase and a nice Group Buy price if we buy 10 complete sets for the manual Z32

300ZX Custom made Magnetic sump plug (these ones actually fit the zed )

All of these plugs were 'custom manufactured' for the 300ZX (because the Universal stuff doesn't fit) and are direct replacements for the oem drain/filler plugs on the Z32. They all come with a 14mm 'bolt style hex head' so they can be easily removed/replaced with the same spanner :thumbup: A vast improvement over those sodding 'square shank indent' oem gearbox/diff plugs that skin your knuckles every time you undo them

Massive 'over design' has been incorporated into the huge 200+degC rated magnets on the gearbox/diff drain plugs to compensate for the lack of routine maintenance given to gearboxes and diffs by most owners.

The use of PTFE thread tape on all plugs is highly recommended and every GB set comes with a custom width, tailor made roll FREE of charge.

Some questions answered.......

The 300zx Magnetic sump plugs were 'custom designed' for the 300zx because the universal Nissan magnetic sump plugs available everywhere, DON'T fit the Z32

The massive size of the magnet was chosen because of the lack of regular oil changes usually suffered by gearboxes and diffs. These magnets have immense strength and will hold anything pulled out of the oil until you wipe it off at your next gearbox/diff oil change. When I got my Monster Magnetic drain plugs in a previous GB, I used it to lift a 7lb (that's over 3kg in metric speak) steel weight I use as a door stop off the floor

The reasoning behind fitting the ultra high temperature magnets to the gearbox/diff drain plugs was because our gearbox/diffs have no external cooling (unlike the Euro zeds) to keep the oil temps under control. The expensive high temp magnets were used to overcome the loss of magnetism suffered by normal magnets when exposed to extremes of temperature.


PTFE tape is recommended for use on all sump/gearbox/differential plugs (filler and drain plugs) for two reasons..........

a) it places a coating between the thread surfaces prohibiting interaction between the two metals so it's easy to undo

b) it reduces the need to 'over tighten' the plugs, which causes damage. Especially important with the gearbox/diff plugs because they have tapered threads

p.s I've been using these plug sets for a number of years on my zeds (as have many other forum members) and am more than happy with their quality and performance. I would highly recommend them to any forum member who still has oem plugs on their zed. The fact the gearbox/diff plugs all have 14mm hex heads is worth the price of purchase alone

 

Auto zed owners NOT missing out...........

I was contacted by an auto zed owner who complained that the auto was being discriminated against in this Group Buy (autos only need the sump and differential plug set)

So I devised a method for 2 x auto zed owners to combine forces in this GB and get the complete kits for their auto zeds @ $56.95ea (normally $72.60)

Here's how it's done :-

1 x manual zed kit ($93.95)
1 x magnetic sump plug ($18.45)
1 x PTFE tape ($1.45)

= $56.95

This relies on even numbers of orders (eg 2, 4, 6 etc) to work out, and splitting the sets can be done at my end (we can match up owners from all over the country) or at your end if you have a mate in your vicinity (only one postage)
