    Hi everyone,

Another question for the community here. Does 2.5" intake piping actually provide a performance benefit?

I understand larger diameter pipes will allow less restrictions for air flow but won't the 2" turbo outlet, 2" intercooler outlets, and 52mm throttle bodies still be the bottlenecks in the intake system? I feel like those bottlenecks will require the same pressure for the air to be pushed through as a system that is fully 2".

My question would related specifically to upgraded turbos (GT2860's). I realize I could be wrong here otherwise why would people buy the upgrades, but I always like to know the why and how before I buy new parts.

As always, thanks for your input!

If you are using 2.5" piping between the turbo outlet and the Throttle body you would also use 2.5" intercooler inlet/outlet and 2.5" throttle bodies.

    Thanks Rob.

I've noticed the turbo I have my eye on from Conceptz (G7 GT 2860r) doesn't have an option for a 2.5" inlet. I also haven't seen anyone selling the upgraded throttle bodies either. If I replaced my intake piping, intercoolers, and intercooler piping would those two bottlenecks (turbo inlet and throttle body) still negate to reason to upgrade?

It's an expensive upgrade and seems like it will be a pain to replace some of those pipes especially with an aftermarket radiator. I'm just looking for enough justification before going down that road.

I’m not really familiar with the various “house” kits available these days but it it’s a GT2860 with the two bolt style intake there should be a 2.5” kit to suit.

Rob Bastian stopped making them - I actually have the last set he sold sitting here. They’re for sale if you want them... expensive... best chat via PM if you are interested.

Pre turbo and post turbo are really different systems. Well they’re two sides of the same system. If you are going to the trouble of upgrading everything post turbo then yes I would make sure the entry to the plenum is enlarged as well (ie larger TB and port match the flanges).
