I'm not sure about the VIN thing

... I have two Zeds and both were issued with two Australian VIN numbers when they were complianced. They were complianced years ago and maybe the system is different now.

Anyway, if that is indeed the original JDM (as in Japanese Domestic Market) VIN, someone on the Forum will be able to check it in the FAST system (which I don't have).

However, one thing is for sure, if it was manufactured in 1996, it is definitely not a 25th anniversary model. They didn't make any in 1996. I guess you knew that already; there are too many difference in your car from a real 25th anniversary model. It is just too hard to swallow that all of the Steve Millen special body bits that were designed for and identify the car as a 25th anniversary special model have been taken off and replaced with the standard stuff. That would defy belief.

 

That VIN was made in May 1996 - one of 8 2S/NA built that month

 

Apart from body parts, did 25th Anniversary cars have any plaque or a stamp somewhere?

there was one on the front guards, a Steve Millen 25th anniversary model sticker, you can see it in this thread. Maybe there was other stuff too.

So the good news is it is indeed a 1996 model and the bad news is you had better get that airbag steering wheel back on to legalise the ADR compliance of the car. Make sure it doesn't go off in your face!
