Hey all, I'm just trying to figure out if my TT was actually a NA converted or not. I'm having doubts because I noticed that the gear box doesn't have a drain plug like specified in the tech section, there isnt a TT sticker on the back of the car (I can see the outline of the removed "fairlady z" sticker). Also, i got an after market TT IMPUL gauge cluster. Any other way of telling? Thanks -Sam
TT trans do not have a drain plug and neither do some na for that matter. Have a look at the vin number, that should tell you what it was origianlly. Or post a pic of the whole engine bay.
There should also be a plate saying the engine type too. Radiator support, left hand side. It will say either: VG30DE - NA VG30DETT - TT. Easy
look for hicas... big piece of shit solenoid in the engine bay if it has it... if you cant find that look for lockout bar near diff, if it has neither then it was an NA to begin with
Have a look at the stamped VIN on the firewall. If it starts with GCZ32 then it's a 2+2 TT, if it starts CZ32 then it's a 2+0 TT. Drop the C out of both of these and it was an NA. The J Spec Z's never had a Twin Turbo sticker on the back, only the US and other countries that received the turbo model. The Japs are quite proud of their "Fairlady Z' but the rest of the world never aligned that title to an aggresive sports car
Just wondering what you ment by the drain plug comment. I have a jap import 91 tt 4 seater. It has a drain plug on the bottom of the gearbox, its clear as day. So is it not the original gearbox? (wouldnt suprise me the car is modified)
Auto drain plugs - seems to be questioned alot. Mandas 92 2+0 NA has a drain plug, where as my 90 2+0 NA doesnt. Mandas changes gears noticably different to mine too. Anyways, irrelivent to the thread. Best trick as mentioned is via the vin, or just inspecting the components in the bay/underbody. Pics are always welcomed too.
In the tech section (Changing the Auto Tranny fluid (turbo & non turbo models) l) it states "On turbo models, undo the drain plug ( where the white arrow is in the picture) in the transmission pan with a 19 mm socket, and drain out the oil. I use an old vegetable container out of a refrigerator to catch the oil. After the oil is drained, there will still be about a 0.6 liter (a pint) of oil left in the pan. There is no drain plug on non turbo models, so go to step 4. " And my car is an Auto TT but no drain plug. That's why I thought it may have been an NA. Also the car is stock from what I can tell
