as for the Targe top... i'm sure a good quality roll cage would do alot to strengthen up the chassis and get rid of most of that flex.

    Go for it.

a 2 seater slick top (non targa's) would be a great car for a targa.
Provided you wanted to run in the RWD class.

And it would be fairly cheap and lots of fun.

    N/A i presume?
I think you would want to lower the diff ratio to 4.5 or somthing.

Maby you could look at fleets car?
Let us know what you decide.

Yep, they are the one. I think went to an R33 GTR before going to the R34. They did run the Z32 for a number of years with occasional success.

LOL go the VW country buggy, when i was a kid in the 70's the local paper shop had one, hotted up with a cage and big tyres, spent many afternoons "legitimately" hooning round the neighborhood throwing papers at people. George the owner was a mad man. Also took it up the beach at Bribie a few times.

    Should read:
for rallying, & most other motor sports that are being taken on seriously..... seam weld it

I've thought about doing a ZX for rally work and there's a few "must haves" on the list to save the hours of pain during the build, most of which have already been mentioned by others, with the most critical being .....

a/ slicktop = structurally stronger for starters

b/ fully welded = additional strength and rigidity = improved handling :D

c/ lift it = KING SPRINGS do excelent coils to order, you'll need it lifted !

d/ one piece tailshaft = common conversion even for road ZX's ;)

e/ new electrial loom & connectors = definately a weak area on a 20yearold car

f/ Radiator = large alloy unit, plenty of GroupBuys for these on this forum over the years

    Alternatively:
A mate had his Celica GT4 - For Sale, well preped car and ready to go.

If you and 'cove' have been around rallying for so long you'll both know Jamie
    ;)
    last rally..... http://www.classicoutbacktrial.com.au/
did it in a ute !!!

    Finaly:

    keep us updated :D
I and a few others would love to see this go ahead and would be very interested to watch the build progress

There's rallying.... and there's the time inbetween waiting for the next rally :D

Depending on the damage and how much has been sold, this NA slik top could be a good starting point for your rally project.

I haven't got a CAMS manual in front of me, but I don't think you'll have a choice. If you want to run it under PRC, you'll need to have the 4 seater...

    IB ?????

CAMS Manual is online here:PRC Manual

    1. ELIGIBILITY
For a vehicle to be eligible as a PRC, it must be derived from any of the following:
1.1 Cars recognised by the FIA as being of Group A from 1 January, 1982. Notwithstanding, World Rally Car Variants and/or components outlined under ?WR? Extensions of Group A homologations are not permitted in PRC.
1.2 Cars formerly recognised by FIA as being of Group 1 or Group 3 which are included on lists published prior to 31 December, 1981.
1.3 Cars of a model which is deemed to be a Touring Car in accordance with the measurements laid down by the FIA, or a car of a model which has a minimum seating capacity of four persons, of which more than 500 have been produced in the same specification, and which are, or were, available to the general public in Australia from the manufacturer?s franchised dealer network.
1.4 Cars either manufactured or assembled in Australia or fully imported, and being of a model which CAMS in its sole discretion may recognise as a PRC irrespective of the number produced or of its origin, and subject to the model being deemed by CAMS to be within the spirit of the definition of a mass-produced vehicle.
    Cars currently recognised are:
    Toyota Corolla Levin (AE111)
    Mitsubishi Mirage Cyborg RS
Mazda RX-7 SA22C (13B engine, US spec); FC ?Series? (not including convertible version); FD1033
    Mazda MX-5 (fitted with hardtop)
    Toyota MR2 (pre-2000 naturally-aspirated models)
Toyota Corolla Seca RV, Corolla GT and FXGT; AE101; AE102 (all fitted with 4AGE 20 valve engine)
Utes derived from a model eligible under article 1.3. of which more than 500 have been produced (eg, Falcon Ute, Commodore Ute)
Ford Laser Sport (KC & KE)
    Nissan Silvia S 13

Looks like it would need to be a 2+2 "a car of a model which has a minimum seating capacity of four persons, of which more than 500 have been produced in the same specification, and which are, or were, available to the general public in Australia from the manufacturer?s franchised dealer network" unless the 2 seater complies with the measurements laid down by the FIA or you can get CAMS to regognise it.

Actually I used to run with Jamies old man Allan. Jamie came on the scene just as we were running out of money and had to stop, as can happen with rallying!

Where would be the best place to find specs of all the different models of 300zx's including the import 2 seaters

Maybe the longer wheelbase 2+2 would be more stable for rallying, compared with the two seater. Weight will be the biggest problem, the Z32 is a solid car but weight is critical if the suspension is to survive.

On the subject of suspension, Murray Coote.

I agree, proflex shocks are the top of the heap, but they may have to wait a while, they are a tad expensive. Thanks for your input.
