hey guys i need some help my 1990 twinturbo zx auto has no drive at all i shift it to drive and teh car wont budge or when i shift it into reverse it just sits there and doesnt drive the trans has full oil and does not smell burnt so yeh can someone please help also the car was making a skreeching noise on startup it would last 2 to 3 seconds and it wasnt any belts
Hey mate, the syptoms your displaying sounds almost like what happened to transmission when it went boom in 2007. I could hear a loud metal scraping sound when in drive and i lost reverse and then i lost 4th gear. I found out the torque converter snapped off inside the trans and basically tore the box un inside. I wouldnt drive it and would take it to a automatic transmission shop asap. When in vic are you?
I've had that twice! Definately up for a rebuild. If you have the extra dosh, grab a new torque converter too. If you haven't already, then I strongly suggest a good cooler or 2 to keep temps down. Once rebuilt and kept cool, the suckers are near bullet broof!
:sorry: Bad News, Just had a similar problem, so it's time for a total rebuild. it is possible that your cooler is blocked not giving you return oil, then the system overheats, I did not break any internals just managed to completely stuff the planetary gears, drive plates etc. so get it rebuilt modify the valve body at the same time and put a LARGE aftermarket oil cooler on. The torque convertor should be replaced / conditioned at the same time, The worst part is to find a mechanic that knows the transmission.
Im hoping it just the tourqe converter or the clutch plate or soemthing i dunno gotta look at it soon cause working on teh zx shits me lol
where abouts are you mate if close to ballarat there is a really good auto rebuilder here and he is reasonably cheap as well
im in geelong take awhile to drive up there but might see what happens like i havent really deturmened what teh prob is yet i just needed to know were to look and now i know i will go check it out thanks guys for the info
Give Techtran's a call their in hoppers crossing, they do free diagnostics free checking and free pickup. I went to them to diagnose my auto problem and they stated they have alot of 300zx Z32 experience.
