    removing the plenum.

I remember reading someone's comment that they did this. If it is possible I wouldn't mind doing it. I intend doing a proper plenum pull but may not get to it before this summer, so bypassing just the coolant hoses would be a good interim measure for me.

    Anyone done this?

I've never heard of this being done. I have heard of injectors being removed with plenum in place, you are not getting confused?
I can't see how you could access the under plenum hoses, without removal.

i agree no way to acess the hoses without the pull.

I am in a constant state of confusion, but generally

get to where I need to go:D

I can see some hoses that you could replace maybe, but certainly you couldn't get to all of them. Leave one hose and that will definately be the one to fail.

I believe it is possible. Never done it myself though.

Pete used to get the ones down the sides of the plenum with plenum on - not any under plenum hoses as such tho...

I think he's talking about just the bypass, not replacing the hoses under the plenum...

If he is it is possible, just remove the balance pipe and as much wiring as you can out of the way. This will enable you to route the appropriate hoses.

I'll try and find a pic of the hoses to attach.

    Cheers
    Greg.

    Turbo or non turbo?

Turbo is a little more complex than the non turbo, not sure if it can be done properly without removing the plenum, someone can correct me.

For an N/A, from the tech section: (Bypass hose routes are green)

The drivers side is pretty simple, that L pipe just below the driver's side green highlighted bypass hose is the PCV hardline, so you can use that as reference as to where the pipes are. The passenger side one is a little more tricky, you'll need good needlenose pliers to get to the clamps. They are in clear view though, so it shouldn't be too hard.

Having looked through the tech articles, I think I will now agree with what others have more or less said about the twin turbo version, I'm not sure it's possible without removing the plenum. Wouldn't really know, don't own one.

    Hope this helps
    Cheers
    Greg.

Bypass is easy without removing the plenum of the balance pipe. 1 hour job max.

Need some straight and 45 degree foot long needle nose pliers and about 2m (with plenty spare) of 8mm heater hose and about 10 12mm worm drive clamps. (you don't need 10, but even the best of us drop a few, and you'll always use them again somewhere else)

All the start and end points are accessible without removing the plenum, not the cleanest job as you still have the old pipes and hoses from under the plenum sticking out, but if you need a quick, reliable bypass it's definately doable.

Remove the passenger side turbo coolant hose from under the Throttle body and attach one end of the bypass hose to the hard pipe, clamp it. Run it neatly underneath the overhang of the plenum around the back and leave it there.

Move the loom out of the way so you have access to the heater hard pipes where the heater hose joins from under the plenum, remove it and join the other end of your bypass hose to this. Check the tech manual for the correct nipple to use.

On the drivers side, remove the heater hose from the turbo coolant pipe sticking up vertical. Attach one end of the new hose to this and run it around the back of the plenum and attach it to the bit of hard pipe that runs along the back of the plenum on the drivers side. On the other end of that bit of pipe you will need to run a short length of hose to one of the nipples on the passenger side heater hard pipe.

Look at the tech section in the bypass article, and you'll see the nipples I mean.

Andymac, you make it sound so easy. So this bypass will

all the hidden under plenum coolant hoses? Thanks, could be just what I want to do as an interim measure.

I think he means what your saying simo. You can modify the fuel rail or like grind the plenum to allow removal of injectors from memory.
