haven't heard of anyone doing this - or why they would anyway.
steering would be hard as hell if you remove it, can't see any benefits whatsoever.

I'm in the process of removing mine, hunting around for a manual rack. There was rumours that a VL rack may work. If not I was just going to connect the inlet and discharge lines off the rack to a smal header tank like a small catch can or similar and leave it as is.

If you want to know how heavy it is just remove the PS belt and go for a drive. I drove around my yard in the 2+2 with no PS and it wasn't unbearble, wouldn't want it on a daily, but I could still steer at low speed alright.

Hey Chrispy, why are you removing PS for bud? Didn't think it was a big of a power drain on the engine.

i have driven an old toyota camry with fcked up p/s.
normal drive is Just ok, but parking or low speed.....shit hard!!!

    remove p/s benefits:
    weight reduction.
    save money on p/s fluid

    muscle buliding !
car goes faster. (dont wanna drive at low speed)

Maybe he is trying to build up his puny chicken arms. :p ;)

I had to drive mine around the block to have a new hose fitted, no worse that driving an old ford or torana, certainly wouldn't like it on a daily.

    For the shear easyness :p

The VH pump is huge and like the TT's has HICAS, so more mucking around. It also clears up a whole lot of room for things like turbo's :D

And yeah, the whole chicken arms thing too :p

I think I'm finally starting to understand why the ass has dropped out of our Z32 resale market.:eek:
Who the ***k would ever want to buy one of these "shredded" cars?
If you just want a piece of crap that looks good, why not just spray paint a dog turd?:bash:
2009 is not looking very promising so far!!!

    red32 You talkin' to me?

I used to have a ZH Fairlane on which the power steering gradually died. Drove it like that for 3 years. Great for building up the shoulders and upper arms! :D

First of all i respect my car and look after it more then most of the people in this forum and that includes you:cool: i have spent and will spent more money on my n/a then anyone else will do for a n/a, secound im not planing to sell my car so i the last thing that comes to my mind is resale :nono: third my car is no where near shredded its a near mint condition! its dead stock on the exterior and interior now what i have done and planing to do under my bonnet is my buzines i belive the 300zx is a true sports car so luxuries for me are o no no :nono: if you are a old man (no offence) and you want your car with luxuries thats fine and i respect that but i on the other hand dont want luxuries so a measly power steering is use less to me (by the way i belive power steering was desined for women behind the wheel ) and if i belive this will have a positive affect on my car then by all means i will do it so please respect that :cool:thank you.

have you driven without power steering before? I respect the work you're doing, it's a similar route i was headed on. But i think you'll make it worse without power steering UNLESS you can find a suitable manual rack. 300zx's have a lot of weight up front and a lot of turn in so low speed manoevering in really quite hard. You will make it less of a sports car by removing it as it will no longer feel as responsive and agile based on the amount of extra effort needed to spin the wheel. But it's your choice

Yes i all my cars have been with out power steering except the zed and yes you are right a cars weight plays a big roll in how hard it would be to steering as for making it worse i dont see how that could happen beside been a bit harder to steer i have heard from many people (preformance minded) that the steering responce got better from removing the ps also alot of my modifications that i have done to my car were to reduce weight my car at the moment is around 1250kg and by the time im done it will be in the 1100kg area and the good thing is i have done all these mods and the ones i will be doing my car will still look stock inside and out cheers:)

Retro, have you actually driven a Zed around with no PS?
And i don't mean burn around the back yard, i mean try driving for an hour through town and maneuvering tight, slow turns, up driveways, etc...
If it is a performance mod .... for an N/A, i wouldn't bother. It's not going to give the NA an extra 20kw's or anything magical like that, it would be much more practical to focus power modifications on other areas like exhaust, intake, tune, cams, headwork - than removing a very functional piece of equipment like power steering - that doesn't actually use much HP to keep running.

But hey, if you want to bust your guts every time you want to turn a corner an for an extra 2kw, it's completely up to you. ;)

    Just my AUD$0.02 :zlove:

No offence taken(but I think you are mistaken about how much I spend on my cars upkeep).:zlove:

That being said, it is your business what you decide to do with your car, however that doesn't change anything with respect to my concerns about Z32's that have been stripped of much of the advanced engineering that came from the factory(often by people who have little knowledge about what the end result might be)and then find their way back onto the "used car market" as very poor examples of the "marque"(and thereby reduce the current market value of all Z32's).

I think you will find that "factory fitted" power steering racks involve a steering ratio far heavier than a non-power steering rack used in some other application, and so, removing such power assistance DOES NOT bring the steering effort required for normal use, back to that of a standard rack.
It does in fact produce a vehicle with extremely heavy, sluggish steering response, and certainly not what you would want in a hi-performance sports car).

oh really, dont go under estimating the spending capabilities of some of the members on this foirum :rolleyes:,how about posting some pix of this money pit lol

what a crock of shit, have you even seen his car ,im sure lloyd does not go ripping everything out of his fully fuctional z32 like you do to get an extra 1rwkw,you may as well get rid of the brake calipers and just use the handbrake man, theres another 1 rwkw
